The government detained Lazare Sebitereko Rukundwa in June and is holding him without charges.

One of three Banyamulenge churches destroyed in Gomo in early February. The Banyamulenge are not allowed to worship God in peace. The genocide continues. Mercifully, no Banyamulenge died. Ironically, the man who led the destruction, Joseph Makundi, died in an accident in the rubble of the church he himself destroyed.

This video depicts the destruction of a church in Goma, North Kivu in early February. Not only was this church destroyed, two others were as well.
Even if they keep to their own buildings, the Banyamulenge are not tolerated or allowed to worship in peace.

BAHO held its first monthly prayer meeting of the new year last night- a small group was able to attend, but we are looking forward to 2023 and continuing our efforts to advocate for the Banyamulenge people.

BAHO is sad to report the killing of the brother-in-law of one of our members last week. In an attack inflicted by government soldiers, five were killed and many were wounded. The murderers will face no repercussions.
We grieve with Pastor Jotham and his family. The picture below shows a group of Banyamulenge who are fleeing the violence. Unfortunately they must go from one dangerous place to another, as they are largely prevented from leaving Minembwe.
We are working on establishing a gofundme so that it's easier to give and help provide medical supplies and food. In the meantime, please pray for the Banyamulenge people.

This comment was made on twitter in Lingala beneath the video calling for genocide that we shared earlier today. We repost this as an example of the scorn and deeply ingrained dehumanization other Congolese show toward the Banyamulenge.

"It’s becoming a comedy!! Even if a Rwandan dies of a [sickness], they will say that the disease is a Congolese and it chose him because of his face 😅😅😅"

A FARDC soldier speaking French and Lingala calls his fellow soldiers to kill all Rwandese, meaning the Banyamulenge who they (falsely) believe are really Rwandan and do not deserve to exist in Congo.

"We strongly condemn the assassination of Cungura Sekangumwa Magnifique carried out by the FARDC in today in Madegu/Minembwe. The 12th brigade based in Minembwe continues to mourn in the eyes of the regional forces present in the high plateau. The investigation of crimes and justice for the are not on the priority menu of the regional force ( ) and the international community."

The FARDC (or Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo) is the government military force responsible for defense of the country from risks within and without. Instead of protecting the citizens, they look the other way as even their own members are killed by their compatriots for simply looking different.
