JQ International

JQ International The heart of queer Jewish life, education, and support.

JQ’s programs and services address the community-building, educational, and wellness needs of our intersectional community, providing vital opportunities for all LGBTQ+ Jews and their allies to connect, learn, and thrive. JQ Mission Statement: JQ celebrates the lives of LGBTQ+ Jews and their allies by transforming Jewish communities, and ensuring inclusion through community building, educational p

rograms, and support and wellness services. JQ Vision Statement: JQ envisions a world where all LGBTQ+ Jews feel a strong sense of self, pride, and community - a place where LGBTQ+ Jews and their allies are supported by communities that embrace their identities and celebrate their unique gifts. History: Established in 2004, JQ International was born out of an urgent need our CEO, Asher Gellis, felt and saw in the Los Angeles community - there was no space for LGBTQ+ Jewish folks to feel connected to one another, to their faith, and to their intersectional identities. What started as a dedicated individual planning safe and affirming community events grew into a powerful organization dedicated to uplifting queer Jewish joy and creating a more inclusive future for all LGBTQ+ Jews and their allies.

Joy is a radical act. πŸͺ©πŸŒˆ

From Shabbat dinners to vibrant holiday gatherings, coming together in authentic celebration is vital to our community’s spirit.

Allyship Honoree Adina summed it up beautifully: "JQ creates spaces where LGBTQ plus Jews are celebrated. Spaces where people can show up fully as their authentic selves without having to edit or hide who they are."

A gift of $180 helps us build the infrastructure to throw open the doors and host a vibrant, inclusive Shabbat dinner for those seeking chosen family.

How to Advocate for Yourself to Receive Authentic and Affirming Cancer Care

This week, we're reminded of why community matters. Because no one should have to choose between their Jewish identity and their LGBTQ+ identity. And together, we're making sure they never have to. Thank you for being part of the JQ family. Whether you joined us at a program, reached out for support, or simply know we're here, you are why we do this work. May this Shabbat bring you peace, pride, and the joy of belonging.

Our annual Pride Shabbat with Ikar is one of our favorite nights of the year β€” and this June 19, we think it might be the best one yet. Join us in Pico-Robertson for Kabbalat Shabbat, dinner, and an after-dinner conversation with author Dr. Sara Glass (Kissing Girls on Shabbat) and Lani Santo, CEO of Footsteps, on LGBTQ+ identity, leaving ultra-Orthodoxy, and what it really means to build an authentic, self-determined life. Services at 6:30, dinner at 7:30 β€” and then we stay at the table for the conversation. $25, link in bio. Come celebrate Shabbat with your community. πŸ•―οΈπŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆβœ‘οΈ

True inclusion requires education, empathy, and action. πŸ“šπŸ€

JQ’s Inclusion Trainings help secular and Jewish organizations better understand and address the needs of their LGBTQ+ members, creating spaces that are truly welcoming for all.

As Allyship Award Honoree Rabbi Yoshi Zweiback powerfully stated: "Inclusion is a sacred obligation."

Unrestricted funding is the engine behind these transformative programs. A gift of $250 provides the necessary materials, staff time, and resources to bring our Inclusion Training to a new synagogue or local community center.

The future is incredibly bright. 🌟 Empowering the next generation of LGBTQ+ Jewish leaders is at the heart of what we do.

Listen to Teen Honoree LJ's incredible testimony: "This group gave me a safe space where I could express myself and explore both my Jewish and q***r identity at the same time... You don't have to choose between being Jewish and q***r. Just choose JQ."

A gift of $150 helps sponsor a teen's participation in our affirming youth programs, covering the operational costs of providing a safe, educational, and joyous space for them to grow.

Shabbat Shalom. πŸ•―οΈ Shabbat invites us to set down the weight of the week and simply be. At JQ, we believe that being fully yourself, in all your q***rness, all your Jewishness, all your complexity, is itself a holy act. As you light candles or close your laptop or gather with people you love, we hope you feel the truth that has always been: you are whole. You are enough. You are home. Shabbat Shalom from all of us at JQ.

The JQ Helpline is a critical first step toward finding support, resources, and a community that truly understands. Whether someone needs a referral for an affirming mental health provider or help finding a welcoming space, our team is there.

Operating the Helpline requires rigorous training and accessible infrastructure. A gift of $54 directly funds an hour of dedicated, compassionate response time on our Helpline, ensuring someone is always there to answer a call, text, or email.
