Southern California Asian Deaf Association

Southern California Asian Deaf Association Building a bridge to promote cultural diversity and understanding of the Asian Deaf Community

SCADA is working to build Asian-American cultural awareness for a growing population in Southern California (Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego, San Fernando Valley, and etc.) of Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals whose ancestry are traced back to China, Japan, Korea, South East Asia, and many other Asian countries. Individuals are able to explore their self identity as they learn more about thei

r own culture.

1997– The first Asian Deaf Conference (ADC) was originally held in Los Angeles. The theme was “Let’s Break Down the Walls of Silence”, and the conference was a big success! The ADC committee received positive responses from the attendees, who expressed interest in finding out about upcoming Asian cultural events.

1999– The committee set up a local chapter in Los Angeles named Los Angeles Asian Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Association (LADHA) in 1999. It was affiliated with National Asian Deaf Congress (NADC).

2003- LADHA changed its name to the Southern California Asian Deaf Association (SCADA) and it remained affiliated with NADC. Our association changed its name to SCADA to better reflect the various locations our members lived throughout Southern California.
