🎉 We are excited to be ramping up our 🌶️10th annual Chili Cookoff with the Rotary Club of Water Valley MS to be held in the Pocket Park across from the bandstand on November 15th. We have capped off entries at 40 pots of chili so there will be some great competition again this year! Chili in crockpots will be dropped off at 10:30 AM and the three SECRET JUDGES will be revealed at the start of the contest at 11 AM. The event will conclude at 2 PM and all chili cooking contestants can come pick up their crockpots at that time. The winners will be announced at 2 pm on the bandstand! 🏆

🌶️Our chili cookoff is held every year during the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Holiday Open House. This year will also feature a tailgating event in Shuffield Park, located behind El Charrito to watch the Ole Miss Rebels play! Come get your bowl of chili, fritos, shredded cheese and a drink all for only $5.00!!! All proceeds will be donated to our Water Valley Police Department’s Chief Jason Mangrum’s family who lost everything in a recent house fire❤️‍🩹 and we are so 🙏🏻thankful that he and his family are safe and sound❣️

Thank you all so much for continuing to be a family and small business oriented community! Can’t wait to see everyone next Saturday!💝

Information on Rotary International and our Water Valley Club:

Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization with more than 1.2 million Rotarians in 33,000 clubs in over 200 countries worldwide. Over $5.5 billion has been awarded through The Rotary Foundation – Rotary’s global charitable arm that helps clubs work together to perform meaningful and impactful service.

Rotarians are business and professional leaders that are united worldwide, who work locally, regionally and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, eradicating polio by giving more than 3 billion children worldwide polio vaccinations which has prevented 19 million children from paralysis. provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world under the Motto “Service Above Self: He profits most who serves best”

The Rotary Club had a very modest beginning in Chicago, IL in 1905. A young Lawyer named Paul P. Harris brought together a coal dealer, a mining engineer, a merchant tailor and a lawyer for the purpose of friendship and obtaining information regarding the careers of other members. Meetings were held in the member’s places of business, in rotation, thus the name ROTARY was suggested.

The Rotary Club of Water Valley MS was chartered on May 15th, 1925 and is part of the Rotary International District 6800 which serves clubs across North Mississippi and Shelby County, Tennessee. Our District supports clubs in strengthening their impact through local and global projects, leadership development and meaningful connections.

Our club has sponsored three Assistant District Governors: Tommy White (club president 1978-79, assistant district governor 2010-13), Paul Roberson (Club president 1996-97) and Raymond Hawkins ( Club President 2014-15, assistant district governor 2024-25) and one District Governor, Tommy White (2013-2014). To become a District Governor or an Assistant District Governor, one must have been the president of their club and serve as an ADG for three years. Thank you for your dedicated service to the Rotary Club.

Currently, the club consists of 27 members and two honorary members. We meet each Tuesday from noon until 1 pm in the back room of the Hometown Pizza Place for lunch and a variety of educational, informative and interesting programs provided by club members and guest speakers. In addition to the contributions to Rotary through local, district and international dues, the Water Valley Rotary Club is involved in and provide support to various community organizations, projects and activities.

Excerpt from the Outgoing President’s Remarks:

The observance of our 100th anniversary is an acknowledgement of the dedication and foresight of those Charter Members in 1925 and others who have preceded us. They gave us an organization whereby we may collectively serve; they gave us a door that opened to giving; and an avenue of service which we may never otherwise have known.

May this program and this meeting be dedicated not only to our Rotary forebears and to the accomplishments of the past, but also to the proposition that, as they have served, we also shall serve. The experiences they enjoyed and the ideas and ideals they strived for should be a constant guide and encouragement for us individually and as a Club. As we endeavor to practice these great principles, we should, as Rotarians, desire to adhere to these same principles.
