Meet Jonathan Kent Adams!
When asked what he believes makes Water Valley such a creative place - this is what he had to say, "I knew Water Valley was special when I came to an art crawl in 2012. People were opening their homes, galleries, and studios to let the community see and celebrate art. If I was going to stay in Mississippi, I wanted to be in a town like this. A few years later, I ended up renting a studio from Joe York at 20 S Main, and now I have a studio that Justin McDaniel and Randy Uncapher renovated at Courthouse Commons. One of the reasons Water Valley keeps creativity alive is people like them believe artists have a place in our community. Another reason is the mix of people and beliefs. We are poor, middle class, rich, all the shades of skin, gay, straight, church people, country people, city people, conservative, liberal, independent, a mix of all things, etc. In a time where everyone is so divided, I think I see moments of what America is supposed to be like here- and art is better when there is freedom to be yourself.
