Happy JA Week! 🎉

This year, Junior Auxiliary is proud to focus on “Disconnect to Reconnect,” a national initiative that encourages meaningful connections by setting aside digital distractions and prioritizing time with those who matter most.

While technology can enhance productivity, it can also pull our attention away from real‑life moments. Through this focus, we’re creating space for meaningful conversations and impactful projects—addressing screen‑time reduction, responsible social media use, and the challenges today’s children face with body image. These conversations couldn’t be more timely as youth navigate an increasingly digital world.

On March 28, our chapter put this mission into action during a day filled with an Easter egg hunt, Family Field Day, and Project Safe Kids—all enjoyed together at the Crawford Sports Complex. It was a wonderful reminder of the joy that comes from unplugging, connecting, and making memories as a community. 💙💛

✨ Happy JA Week! ✨

This week, Junior Auxiliary chapters celebrate the heart of service, the joy of sisterhood, and the impact volunteers make in their communities.

As we join chapters across the South in this celebration, we’re also reflecting on the beautiful theme chosen by our 2025–2026 NAJA President, Kathryn Huffman:
“It’s Time to Live Your Legacy.”

Her theme invites every member — from Provisional to Life — to consider how our daily acts of service shape the future of the children and families we serve. Legacy isn’t something we leave behind someday. It’s something we build every time we show up with compassion, purpose, and heart.

What legacy do YOU hope to leave in our community?
Share a word, a sentence, or a story. Your reflections help inspire the next generation of service.

Here’s to JA Week — a time to celebrate our community, our sponsors, and the volunteers who serve all year long. We can’t wait to continue that legacy together at this Saturday’s Charity Ball.

As we kick off JA Week 2026, we would like to share how our organization began more than 85 years ago.

Our history originally started amid the Great Depression in 1935. Two doctors in Greenville, MS, Dr. Montgomery and Dr. Gamble, contacted the society editor of the Delta Democrat Times, Louise Crump, for help. These doctors saw daily the plight of Greenville’s children living in back alleys and on shanty boats on the river. They asked Crump to solicit the aid of her friends in providing food, clothing and toys, along with transportation to the doctors’ and dentists’ offices. She contacted nine women who met with her in her home. They assessed themselves $5 each to begin their work. They convinced businesses and other individuals in Greenville to provide services and goods. Local dentists and doctors donated their time, and membership grew.

The Greenville women realized that there were similar groups of women in other towns, and by 1940 they began meeting with some of them in the Mississippi and Arkansas Delta. They joined forces, and using the National Junior League as a model, they created a constitution on Nov. 14,1941 with Crump as the first NAJA president. The charter chapters were McComb, Greenville, Greenwood, Leland, Laurel, Meridian, Vicksburg and West Point, MS; and Pine Bluff and Russellville, AR.

Today there are 83 chapters with more than 16,000 members in seven Southeastern states. Chapters find needs that are not being met in their communities and develop projects to meet those needs.
