The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue provides funding to Low Income Taxpayer Clinics so they can offer free legal assistance on state tax matters. The LITCs can provide help to eligible taxpayers regarding appeals, collections, liens, and identity theft, among other issues. Last week, Summit Legal Aid staff gathered in Harrisburg on September 17th and 18th for the Pennsylvania Legal Aid Network (PLAN) Statewide Training Conference.

This year was special because the statewide conference included the Annual Excellence Awards ceremony. Megan Williams, Summit Legal Aid’s Public Benefits Paralegal, received the Champion for Justice Award for her outstanding and vital advocacy for clients over the past 25 years!!

We are extremely saddened by the loss of former Summit Legal Aid attorney John Perrott. After battling a difficult illness, he passed away last month at home with his family by his side.

John believed in fairness, justice, and kindness, and he dedicated nearly 40 years working with us in Uniontown, helping those who needed it the most. He was a mentor and good friend to each of his co-workers, with his booming voice and spirited personality bringing a smile to everyone’s faces.

John’s family meant everything to him, and our hearts go out to his wife and children. While John will be sorely missed by his friends and loved ones, his memory will live on through each of us who had the pleasure of knowing him.
