Cold weather can cause Narcan to freeze at 5°F or below. When frozen, the spray will not work. After Narcan fully thaws at room temperature (about 15 minutes), it can be used and is effective.

If an overdose is suspected while Narcan is frozen, do not wait — call 911 right away. If the person is not breathing or is breathing slowly, provide rescue breathing until Narcan can be given and help arrives.

🍪 Yesterday was National Cookie Day — a good reminder of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Effect: fentanyl is unevenly mixed, and one part of a batch may be deadly while another isn’t. It only takes an amount as small as a few grains of salt to cause a fatal overdose.

If you choose to use pills not from a pharmacy: crush and mix the whole pill before testing, don’t use alone, and carry naloxone.

And know that test strips can help, but they have limits. They can miss some very strong forms of fentanyl and may not work when certain substances are present. Most importantly, a negative test doesn’t mean a batch is safe.
