Ecstatic Dance DC

Ecstatic Dance DC is the dance-iest dance floor in all of DC! Ecstatic Dance DC is a sober, free-movement and expression event.

An incredible diversity of people show up for one thing: to dance. All else - the magic, connection, energy - sprouts from that singular intention. This may also be the most musically diverse dance floor you've ever been on. Ecstatic Dance DJ sets intentionally feature a broad range of genres and tempos. We travel through ambient, classical, jazz, house, global bass, Afro-Latin, drum & bass, acoustic, and more! The music is dynamic to help keep your movements spontaneous and fresh.

Collaborating with land stewards, eco-centers, cacao producers, and environmental activists, they produce unique Future Folk events in breathtaking natural locations, blending music, nature, and community connection.

Their most recent body of work (spanning their last two albums and their upcoming sixth) explores the question, “Can the music be the entheogen?” with The Psychoactive Project, a deep dive into the potential of sound as a trigger for altered states.

Rubaba has studied the world’s sacred texts and offers a unique style by combining music from different parts of the world in his devotional singing. His style inspires call and response, deep meditation, and dancing with joy. He creates vast and intricate soundscapes using multiple instruments including guitars, keyboards, ethnic flutes, and percussion. Listeners often leave with a deep sense of peace, calm, and exhale after attending Rubaba’s Kirtan Workshops.

Ecstatic Kirtan:

In this brand new offering Rubaba has combined his love for electronic music with Kirtan, creating a new genre of music called ecstatic kirtan. Music influences for the set are drawn from a variety of world music formats such as middle eastern makam, Indian classical raga, Native American chants, Gregorian chants, to name a few and these music styles are combined with electronic grooves to create an absolutely uplifting ecstatic dance experience for the dancer. Some of the chants are also original where Rubaba uses simple human emotional experiences to create a very relatable chant such as “I am love.”
