The grid remains 99.95% reliable thanks to critical investments in resilience, transmission modernization, and expanded system capacity.

: What to Know About Permitting Reform From the POLITICO Energy Summit

At the EEI-sponsored summit last week, lawmakers, business leaders, and Administration officials agreed cutting bureaucratic red tape is critical to strengthening grid resilience and delivering reliable, affordable energy.

More specifically:

*Permitting Reform Will Help Customers: Regulatory delays add up to 25% to project costs. Permitting reform removes this bureaucratic tax paid by customers.
*Red Tape Hampers American Competitiveness: Speed-to-power is vital. The U.S. risks losing its competitive edge to rivals if red tape constrains infrastructure buildout.
*Now Is the Time for Action in Washington: Bipartisan momentum in Washington is high, with leaders from both sides pushing to get a durable permitting package to the President’s desk this year.

The bottom line? To lower costs and power the economy, we need to get more steel in the ground and electrons on the grid.

ICYMI: At today's POLITICO Energy Summit, EEI President and CEO Drew Maloney explained why siting and permitting reform is so important for every American:

“Permitting reform is about affordability and customer solutions, and we really have the opportunity... If you look at the cost imposed by the regulatory structure that we have right now in the United States, up to 25 percent of the project cost is regulatory bureaucratic red tape, and the customer has to pay that, and that's unacceptable... Ultimately if we want to talk about affordability and what the federal government can do to help lower the cost of power bills, do permitting reform. I'm optimistic we'll get there.”
