Martin Twesigye’s journey with CorpsAfrica did not end after his first year of service in Kyerero, Uganda. As an Alumnus of the program, he chose to serve again, this time as an Exchange Volunteer with CorpsAfrica Malawi, carrying forward his belief that lasting change begins within communities themselves.

During his initial year of service in Uganda, more than 80 households established kitchen gardens, 37 community members launched income-generating projects, and 75 pupils learned arts and crafts. A registered Community-Based Organization now stands where none existed before, creating opportunities that will continue long after his service.

Now, Martin is bringing that same spirit of service and self-reliance to communities in Malawi.

Most candidates arrive with potential. CorpsAfrica Alumni arrive with proof.

A full year of designing and delivering real projects, building trust in communities where trust is earned slowly, leading without supervision, and executing under conditions no job description prepares you for.

By the time a CorpsAfrica Alumnus walks into your interview room, they have already been tested.

The question is not whether they are ready for your organisation. It is whether your organisation is ready for them.

CorpsAfrica Volunteer Nishimwe Uwase Audile will tell you that her role was to walk alongside the community, to listen before acting, to plant hope in people’s hearts, and to trust the community to shape its own future.

Nishimwe sat with elders as they shared their wisdom. She joined farmers in the fields at dawn. She attended village gatherings where neighbors came together in unity. And somewhere along the way, she stopped feeling like a visitor. The elders began calling her their daughter.

Serving as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer allowed Nishimwe to witness the power of community-led change unfold over time. Savings groups gained momentum. Kitchen gardens fed children and families. Young people began dreaming bigger. Elders felt valued and seen.

Her story is a reminder that meaningful change begins with listening, trust, and walking together.

CorpsAfrica/Rwanda Volunteer Violette Iradukunda helped introduce a youth savings initiative in Kigarama Village, Rwanda. For Alphonsine Nyinawumuntu, it became the turning point.

Today, Alphonsine runs three businesses. Pig farming, Vegetable trading and a beverage business. She is supporting her family, investing in her children’s future, and mentoring other women in her community to do the same.

She started small. She reinvested. She diversified. She scaled.

This is what happens when women are trusted with the tools and space to lead their own change.

Congratulations to every CorpsAfrica/Malawi Volunteer who took the stage at .

Volunteers and their community partners presented locally designed projects responding to priorities such as access to clean water, food security, education, healthcare, and economic opportunity. Each project is shaped through close collaboration with community members, ensuring that solutions reflect real needs and are grounded in local knowledge.

Real change is grown, funded, and sustained by the people who have the most at stake in seeing it succeed.
