By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or emergency kitchens, WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute directly to families in need. When WCK teams arrived in the southern Ukrainian town of Tverdomedove, Lidiia told us that not many people are able to safely reach their frontline village with aid—which made our delivery of chicken kits especially meaningful for the community. Lidiia and her family already have big plans for their new laying hens. They're waiting for them to start laying eggs so they can cook some of the meals they love again, and they hope to eventually sell some of the eggs to bring in reliable income. For families living close to the front line, support like this helps bring stability back into daily life—one chicken, one egg, and one hopeful plan at a time.

🥚❤️ WCK's teams are using every tool available to support families impacted by the Russian invasion—from seed kits for home gardens to the return of our laying hen program. WCK teams are once again distributing chicken kits, each including ten vaccinated hens, 220 pounds of high-quality feed, and a water bucket, so families can gather fresh eggs right in their own backyards. This season, WCK is delivering 6,760 chickens across the region, supported by 69 tons of feed. As needs change, our teams keep showing up with food, care, and support that helps families build a little more stability at home.

As the Ebola outbreak continues in eastern DRC, WCK partner Good News For Africa is taking proactive steps to keep the communities they serve safe—while ensuring families and children keep receiving nourishing meals every day.
Here's what WCK and GNFA are doing on the ground:
🧼 Installing 50 large handwashing stations at schools and distribution sites so every child washes their hands before and after receiving food
🌡️ Taking temperatures at schools and hospitals before food is distributed
🧤 Using PPE during all meal distribution. We were among the first organizations to provide PPE in the Bukavu region
🥗 Adapting food sourcing by shifting to more local farms, local butchers, and nearby producers to reduce reliance on supply chains affected by the outbreak
No Ebola cases have been reported in the areas where GNFA operates. But preparation—not reaction—is how communities stay protected.
"We cannot afford to wait," said GNFA founder Didier Balagizi. "We are building the infrastructure to protect our communities now."

Hussam spent six years playing football for Al-Nuseirat Club, dreaming of representing the Palestinian national team. Waseem F***j spent ten years on the field—and achieved part of that dream, representing Palestine and setting his sights on the biggest competitions.
Today, they stand side by side at a WCK kitchen—not on a pitch, but at a stove—preparing meals for thousands of displaced families every single day.
The game taught them teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Now they bring those same values to something just as important: making sure their neighbors don't go hungry.
Their dream of football isn't gone. But right now, they've found a different way to show up for Palestinians.

Overnight, a Russian missile and drone attack ignited a fire at Kyiv's Dormition Cathedral—a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Ukraine's most sacred landmarks. WCK teams are serving hot meals at the site, as well as other impacted locations across the city. An attack on a historic site like this is an attack on the identity of Ukrainians.
