Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises, while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served hundreds of millions of nourishing meals around the world. When disaster strikes, WCK’s Relief Team mobilizes with the urgency of now to start cooking and serving meals to people in need. By partnering with organizations on the ground and activating a network of local restaurants, food trucks, or emergency kitchens, WCK serves comforting meals to survivors of disasters quickly and effectively. To support regional economies, WCK prioritizes purchasing local ingredients to cook with or distribute directly to families in need. We know that good food provides not only nourishment, but also comfort and hope, especially in times of crisis.

WCK is on the ground in Baja California, Mexico after Hurricane Rachel left a wake of destruction over the weekend. Ensenada was among the hardest-hit areas, flooding was so severe that patients had to be evacuated from the city’s General Hospital. WCK is working with our restaurant partner La Concheria in Ensenada to cook and distribute meals to families whose food access was cut off by the storm.

Ensenada fue una de las zonas más afectadas, las inundaciones fueron tan severas que pacientes tuvieron que ser evacuados del Hospital General. In Synychyno, 16 people remain. In Kamianka, around 80. Both villages in Ukraine’s Izium district have been badly damaged by years of war and occupation. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for families with children, leaving behind mostly seniors with nowhere else to go.
Every month, WCK finds a way to reach them with food. The roads are increasingly dangerous. Some organizations have stopped making the journey. We keep finding a way.
For the people who remain, a regular delivery means one thing: knowing that nourishing food will reach their village, even when getting there is anything but simple.

Our team is supporting families at the San Pedro Apóstol Church, which is currently serving as a temporary shelter for residents of the El Tuito community as Hurricane Simon is monitored closely. So far, the storm has not caused major damage, but people are sheltering as a precaution, and our team is there with them. We’ll keep you updated as the situation develops.

Students at the Al-Amal School in central Gaza have returned to class, and WCK is there to make sure no one sits down to learn on an empty stomach. Our teams are delivering thousands of meals daily to Al-Amal and three other schools because we know that hungry children cannot focus, cannot thrive, and cannot reach their full potential. The WCK Rapid Response Mobile Kitchen is up and running in East Brewton, Alabama! WCK's Ben and our team cooked up chili mac inside our 43-foot-long truck, where they were able to make hundreds of meals in only a few hours for families impacted by Hurricane Isaias this weekend. Many areas in Florida and Alabama are still without power, and residents don't know when it will return. When families can't use their own kitchens, we bring the kitchen to them.

WCK is responding in Panama, where a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck the Pacific Coast on Friday, triggering tsunami warnings and a government-declared state of emergency. Through our networks, we’ve identified communities near the epicenter where food support is needed. Working with local Chef Corps members Isaac Villaverde and Mario Castrellón, we’ve partnered with a restaurant in the province of Los Santos that will start serving meals to impacted families today. WCK will work closely with them over the coming days to strengthen and scale their efforts.
