Stand With the Girls: Marking the International Day of the Girl Child

Every girl should have options – for whether, when, and whom she marries, for what livelihood she pursues and for what her future should look like. In 2026, the International Day of the Girl Child provides a clarion call to broaden girls' options through this year's theme, "End child marriage and invest in girls' rights!"

At the Batonga Foundation, our mission and vision strongly resonate with this year's theme. Investing in girls' rights requires thoughtful and multi-faceted commitment over the long term. We must stand with girls from the very beginning, as we stoke their dreams through raising awareness of their rights and their options, all throughout the educational or vocational paths they choose to pursue—so that stories like Femi’s become the norm.

Aux côtés des filles : célébrer la Journée internationale de la fille

Chaque fille devrait avoir le choix : celui de savoir si elle souhaite se marier, à quel moment et avec qui ; celui de l’activité qui lui permettra de gagner sa vie ; et celui de l’avenir qu’elle souhaite construire. En 2026, la Journée internationale de la fille constitue un appel fort à élargir les possibilités offertes aux filles, autour du thème de cette année : « Mettre fin au mariage des enfants et investir dans les droits des filles ! »

À la Fondation Batonga, notre mission et notre vision font pleinement écho au thème de cette année. Investir dans les droits des filles exige un engagement réfléchi, multidimensionnel et inscrit dans la durée. Nous devons être aux côtés des filles dès le début de leur parcours, nourrir leurs rêves en les sensibilisant à leurs droits et aux possibilités qui s’offrent à elles, puis les accompagner tout au long des parcours éducatifs ou professionnels qu’elles choisissent de suivre, afin que des histoires comme celle de Femi deviennent la norme.

La Fondation Batonga et le programme Force-N Bénin (Formations Ouvertes pour le Renforcement des Compétences pour l’Emploi et l’Entrepreneuriat dans le Numérique) en partenariat avec la Mastercard Foundation, lancent un appel à soumission pour la sélection d’entreprises, associations et GIE partenaires du projet SheDigital au Bénin !

Le projet SheDigital de la Fondation Batonga ouvre les candidatures aux structures intéressées par deux dispositifs :

We all have a baobab in our lives—perhaps a family member, a lifelong friend, a mentor—that anchors us, keeps us grounded, and nourishes us with their presence. Why not celebrate them in a way that allows you to become a baobab to others? You can make a dedication with your ticket purchase or direct donation in honor of the special baobab(s) in your life to “Be the Baobab! An Evening with Angélique Kidjo” fundraising event. We will then compile and display these messages at the event on September 15, 2026. Check the photos for more info!

All proceeds from this event will help fund the Batonga Foundation’s programs, which equip women and girls in Benin and Senegal with the skills and resources to become agents in their own lives and contribute to the growth of their communities.
