Project ACTION! is a regional coalition of self-advocates and self-advocacy groups from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. ACTION!

stands for Advocacy, Change, Training, Information, Organizing and Networking.

Project ACTION! knows that Thomas would have been celebrating PRIDE in DC, New York and elsewhere. Such a passionate advocate for so many causes!

Project ACTION! is deeply saddened by the death of our Co Vice-President Robert Kennedy, Jr., on Saturday, May 23. Robert served in multiple positions over the past 40 years with Project ACTION! including Co-President.

His commitment to advocacy, continuing education, training others, and being a great leader will be remembered and cherished. He loved training, testifying at City Council, traveling, and being an athlete with Olympics of DC.

Robert served on the Board of Directors of National Children's Center, Lifeline Partnership, and numerous committees and groups. He was a dedicated member of Services for Children with Special Needs.

His impact on the DC disability community will be missed but its impact will live on in the lives he touched and the policies he influenced.

Memorial Services are being planned and will be announced when finalized.

Rest in Peace Friend!

Today we remember our Co-President L. Thomas Mangrum, Jr., on his heavenly birthday!

We miss you Thomas, your leadership, strong advocacy, your check-in calls, and your hearty laugh.

You continue to inspire us to speak up, to not be silenced or ignored. We will practice, “Nothing About Us, Without Us”, it’s a long, hard fight but we will do it with you in our hearts.

Project ACTION! presented two workshop sessions at the TASH conference.

On Friday, Dec. 5 they presented a session titled “Nothing About Us Without High Expectations: Raising Expectations, Raising Voices” and recognizing the value of their advocacy and it’s impact on what’s important in their lives.

On Saturday, Dec. 6 they presented a session titled “The Role of Advocacy in Healthy Relationships: It’s Your Choice” discussing the value of respect in relationships.

Project ACTION! Co-President Ricardo Thornton was awarded the TASH Lifetime Achievement Award on Friday, December 5 at the TASH conference in Denver, CO.

Ricardo shared how he grew up in an institution, Forest Haven. After he left he pledged to advocate for others so they would experience a better life than he did living there and his sister, Earline who died there.

Ricardo is an amazing advocate, leader, and role model. He continues to achieve and inspire others and Project ACTION! is grateful for his leadership.

We’re here at TASH 2025 Conference and we’re sorry that Project ACTION!’s Co-President Thomas Mangrum, Jr., is not here with us! We miss you always Thomas.

Thomas was an amazing leader, advocate, mentor and friend. He loved attending the TASH conferences, educating others and making new connections with disability professionals from around the country!

Project ACTION! members presented a workshop titled “Self-Advocacy and Healthy Relationships” today at the TASH conference.

They shared their lived experiences and how their involvement intersects with , a collaboration they are a part of along with Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities, the DC R**e Crisis Center, and the Department on Developmental Disability.

Members Thomas Mangrum, Lindsey Wilkes, Thelma Green, and Vanessa Monroe presented. The session was moderated by advisor Tiffany Yuille.
