Before we get into all the mayhem of nationals over the next two weeks, we want to take a moment to acknowledge something really special and a shining example of what makes our sport so great. Some of you may have seen that on Friday, Bayside Skiers got word that the lake they ski on and were set to host the Midwest Regional Tournament on was put on no wake restrictions. With less than 24 hours notice, they scrambled to find a new site, move barges, equipment, concessions, everything, contact everyone, and set up an entire tournament. In any other sport, the tournament likely would have been cancelled, but we are show skiers. We don’t quit!
Bayside successfully set up an entire tournament at a public park about 45 minutes from their home site they had invested time and money into upgrading just for this tournament with only a couple hour delayed start Friday morning. The team jumped right into action mode to make it happen, no questions asked. People from many other teams that were on site also stepped in to help to make sure the tournament happened. We did not hear a single complaint, a single pain of frustration, nothing. Everyone stepped up to help make this tournament happen. We could not be more impressed.
Thank you Bayside Skiers for not giving up when adversity reared its ugly head. Thank you Waterhawks Ski Team and Hartwick Huskys Water Show Ski Team for both offering your sites to host the tournament at literally a moments notice. Thank you to all the volunteers from other teams who stepped in to help with set up and tear down so the park could be cleaned up so quickly and for helping a team in need.
Our sport is so special because of situations like this. We’ve rallied to help fellow teams and individuals in need, and we know we’ll do it again. We are beyond proud of each and every one of you for doing what you could to help and keeping such a great attitude through it all. Thank you all for your showmanship and teamwork!
