WASECA, Minn. — Waseca Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Brad Dushaw as the next Head Boys Varsity Hockey Coach for the Waseca Bluejays.
Dushaw brings more than 12 years of coaching experience and a strong connection to hockey in the Waseca community. He has served as an assistant coach with the Waseca boys varsity hockey program since 2015, working closely with student-athletes and coaching staff in all aspects of the program, including practice planning, offseason development, game strategy, player development, team operations, and game-day preparation.
“I am honored and excited to lead this incredible group of athletes,” Dushaw said. “I look forward to continuing to build on the strong foundation and success that Waseca High School hockey has established. I cannot wait to get back on the ice with the team and work together to build our brand of hockey.”
His extensive background in youth hockey has also allowed him to play an important role in developing players throughout the Waseca hockey system. Dushaw has served as the Director of Mites, 8U Girls, and Mini-Mites for the Waseca Hockey Association and as a P*e Wee head coach. His additional coaching experience includes serving as a youth head coach with UNRL AAA Hockey and as a Bantam assistant coach with the Mankato Area Hockey Association.
Throughout his coaching career, Dushaw has placed an emphasis on developing student-athletes both on and off the ice. His coaching philosophy centers on fundamentals, player development, teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, integrity, and academic success while creating a positive and competitive team culture.
Dushaw is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach and holds current SafeSport and Minnesota State High School League coaching certifications.
A graduate of Saint Paul Johnson High School, Dushaw was a three-year varsity hockey player and served as an assistant captain during his playing career. He later attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Services.
In addition to his coaching experience, Dushaw brings a strong professional background in recreation, facilities, and community programming. He currently serves as Parks Director for the City of Waseca and previously worked as Recreation and Facilities Coordinator for the City of Owatonna.
Dushaw’s familiarity with the Waseca hockey program, established relationships with student-athletes and families, and extensive involvement in youth hockey provide a strong foundation as he transitions into the head coaching role.
Waseca Public Schools is excited to welcome Brad Dushaw as the next leader of the Bluejay boys hockey program and looks forward to the continued growth and development of Waseca hockey under his leadership.
