While our library staff are busy unearthing the library, the friends are busy helping to support their reopening and their fabulous summer reading program and events!! They are excited to welcome you back to the library, and can’t wait to share the summer with you!

We are literally unearthing 17,000 pounds of stories as we put the library back together again just in time for summer reading!! This year’s theme is “Unearth a Story” and we love that the Pennysaver put us right next to Plants and Stuff, Warsaw, NY! Well played!! Check out our full summer reading line up, beginning with our ribbon cutting celebration on 7/7! https://owwl.libcal.com/calendar/warsawpubliclibrary?cid=14241&t=d&d=0000-00-00&cal=14241&inc=0 Don’t forget to go to click next page at the bottom, and immediately scroll up to the top of each page to view all our programs…otherwise the app drops you to the bottom of the earth (page) and it’s important you crawl your way up to the top to unearth all our programs!!!

While our library is closed, their digital library is always open! Download the Libby app if you haven’t! Search OWWL Library System in Canandaigua. Enter your library card number and pin (last 4 digits of your phone number) to access this valuable resource, and consider advocating for this service by learning more and how libraries are calling everyone to action for fair access. Public libraries across the continent are asking publishers for reasonable econtent licensing models. Current models are increasingly unsustainable for library budgets. Read the joint statement below to understand how these models impact your experience as a library patron or visit https://www.flls.org/eight-things-to-know-about-ebooks/

Digital access of library patrons is under threat…all because of rising e-book costs. Libraries are spending up to 3 times more than consumers to buy e-books, only for that content to expire.

That’s why we’re calling on North America’s Big Five publishers to work with libraries together to identify and implement real, sustainable solutions. Read our full statement: https://bit.ly/4dBnwj6

17,000 lbs!!! The scale doesn’t lie. LOL

Our books have come home! We will begin putting them back in their rightful places for all to borrow again!! Books are heavy… but how heavy are our books?! The books in storage weighed approximately 17,000 lbs. The movers stored 17 pallets of books and each one weighed approximately 1000 lbs. They said that the lightest pallet was 700 lbs and the heaviest was 1,400. This does not include the books we circulated, purchased, or stored while at the church over the last 8 months.

We have THE BEST Friends Of The Warsaw Public Library!! Thank you Nikki Steele for hosting our June Hobbits & Hyperdrives discussion at The Looking Glass Salon!

Our June book discussion will be God's Junk Drawer by Peter Clines, a modern take on the classic "Land of the Lost" trope following an academic team that finds themselves in a hidden valley populated by dinosaurs, aliens, and androids.

Our discussion will be June 23rd at 6 pm and we'll be meeting at the Looking Glass Salon at 60 N. Main Street while we work to reopen the library!

It's time to stock up on holds for pick up at WARSAW! Beginning May 11th, WAR will not be an option to pick holds up at. Patrons will have to place holds for pick up at another library. WE ARE STILL OPEN FOR ALL SERVICES at the church till 5/24! You can browse, borrow, return, and pick up holds until 5/23...but the holds system will stop you from choosing items for pick up at WAR 5/11.

We are so excited for the reopening! Join us for our monthly meeting of the Friends this Monday, May 4th at 5!

We want to remind our patrons that you can park in the county parking lot, on the street and in front of the entrance marked clergy only. We also recognize that accessibility can be a challenge for some of our patrons. Not to mention…WINTER. Sometimes you just don’t want to get the kids out of the car…we get it, and we want to help. If you need us to bring out your holds, pull up to the clergy lot or side of the road and call us at 786-5650 and we will check out your holds and bring them out to you. Don’t have holds but want us to bring out an author you like…we can do that too. We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility during our renovation and we want to make library-ing a little easier if you need it.
