Manure management: Improving nutrient use and air quality. Better manure management = cleaner air, healthier cows, and stronger farms.

At Cornell Dairy Research and Education Center (CDREC), Jason Oliver and PRO DAIRY’s Dairy Environmental Systems team are advancing research on manure treatment and air quality solutions. Using pilot scale manure storages, they test additives and treatment methods to improve nutrient value and reduce emissions.

The team also uses advanced laser and multi gas monitoring systems to study air emissions in barns and around manure systems, helping improve air quality, retain more nitrogen for crops, and support cow health. It’s practical, science based work that helps farms stay efficient, sustainable and ahead of evolving regulations.
