Ohio ranks 10th in the nation for the most reported cases, according to 2022 data collected by the Polaris Project. In most of these reported cases, victims are not being trafficked by a stranger violently kidnapping them. Most victims are trafficked by someone they know that has tricked, threatened, or manipulated them into providing commercial s*x or labor, with hundreds of Ohioans being trafficked by their own spouse, partner or parent.

Stay vigilant! According to Agape International Missions website, “Global and Regional Trends (2026 Data)

Global Burden: An estimated 49.6 million people are living in situations of modern slavery on any given day, comprising 27.6 million in forced labor and 22 million in forced marriage.

Human Trafficking in the United States (2026 Data)Prevalence: An estimated 300,000 children are trafficked or at risk of exploitation annually in the U.S..Cases Identified: In 2023, federal reports identified 7,927 cases, involving 14,580 victims.

Types of Trafficking: S*x trafficking continues to dominate federal dockets, though labor trafficking is significant.

Key 2026 Insights

Online Recruitment: Online recruitment has become the dominant method for traffickers.

Transportation: In 2023, private vehicles were the most common mode of transport (38%) in federal trafficking cases, followed by air travel (7%) and ride-shares (7%).

Increased Prosecution: In fiscal year 2023, 1,782 persons were prosecuted for human trafficking in U.S. district courts, a 73% increase from 2013.

Vulnerability: Women and girls remain the most vulnerable, representing roughly 36% of detected victims for s*xual exploitation, while 38% are trafficked for forced labor.”
