Happy Independence Day 🇺🇸

Today, we celebrate the birth of our nation and the freedoms we enjoy because of the courage and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve.

As we gather with family and friends this Fourth of July, let us also remember the brave men and women who have defended our country throughout its history. Their dedication has made our independence possible.

From all of us at the Waconia VFW Post 5462, we wish you a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day

Memorial Day 2026

A heartfelt thank you to the VFW & Legion Color Guard for helping make our Memorial Day ceremonies so meaningful and memorable.

Thank you as well to everyone in the community who attended the cemetery visits, parade, and Memorial Day program. Your support and presence help honor the true meaning of this day.

We will never forget the brave servicemen and women who gave their lives for our freedom.

Color Guard Cemetery Schedule, Parade & Program

Cemetery Schedule:
• 8:00 AM – Faith Lutheran Cemetery
• 8:25 AM – Scandia Swedish Cemetery
• 8:45 AM – Waconia Public Cemetery
• 8:50 AM – Trinity Lutheran Cemetery
• 9:15 AM – Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery
• 9:40 AM – Lake Auburn Moravian Cemetery
• 9:50 AM – Saint Victoria Catholic Cemetery
• 10:15 AM – Zoar Moravian Cemetery

The parade will begin at 10:45 AM at the intersection of South Vine Street & West Main Street and end at City Square Park.

A formal Memorial Day Program will begin at 11:00 AM and will feature:
• Music by the Waconia High School Marching Band
• Community Speakers
• Keynote Speaker
• Remember & Honor Program
• Color Guard Salute To The Fallen

Following the ceremony, the community is invited to a free picnic at the American Legion Post 150 Club located at 4 East Main Street. Free will donations supporting the mission of the American Legion are appreciated.

Rain Plan: If weather does not cooperate, the parade will be canceled and the Memorial Day Program will be held at Bayview Elementary School (24 S Walnut St).

Congratulations to our VOD Essay Winner!

We would like to congratulate Eliza Rowan from Watertown-Mayer High School for being selected as this year’s Voice of Democracy (VOD) Essay winner!

This year’s essay prompt was: “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”

Eliza’s thoughtful essay stood out and we are proud to recognize her achievement. A special thank you to her teacher, Ms. Mandt, for supporting and encouraging students to participate in this important program.
