For nearly 80 years, Stoneleigh was the home of the Haas family, which donated the property to Natural Lands in 2016 so that it would remain preserved forever. The property includes stately trees, winding pathways, and lush gardens that were designed by a number of notable landscape architects over the past century—including the Olmsted Brothers, sons of the famed Frederick Law Olmsted. Stoneleigh is owned and managed by non-profit conservation organization Natural Lands.

Last week Stoneleigh staff and volunteers had the opportunity to visit Laurel Hill. It is a historically significant property as well as an arboretum.

Thank you to Laurel Hill's Arboretum Director for providing an engaging tour of the property including some of the history and their work to build and maintain their amazing collection of trees.

Ah, the timeless whimsy of fallen petals in the grass. We have to wonder how many have taken pause to admire (or even play) in the white petals of the Southern catalpa over the years ☺️

Note: This image is now several years old...my, how far the hedgerow here in Catalpa Court has come!

This FREE program runs June 15th through August 15th.

Stop by the welcome kiosk during the garden's open hours to borrow the book. Find a cozy spot to read it and then return the book to get your map stamped.

The bog gardens at the Pool House terrace are home to a unique flora known as Pitcher plants. Distinct for both their form and the way they gather nutrients, Pitcher plants are carnivorous.

The long, tube-like leaves (pitchers) are filled with digestive fluid that lures, traps and breaks down their prey.

Insects beware! Humans go ahead and enjoy these stunning plants.
