YSF’s Edee Steinkamp has been accepted United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, Connecticut. A highly competitive admission process, with over 2,000 applicants, culminated with Edee selected as one of 300 who will join the class of 2030 in July for Swab Summer Camp. Founded in 1876 the USCGA offers cadets a free education that combines rigorous academics with training to be commissioned an Ensign the United States Coast Guard upon graduation.
Edee began her sailing adventure in 2018 at the age of 11 in YSF’s free Learn to Sail Program. Through the years she honed her racing skills and became a winning member of YSF’s Varsity Racing Team. She recently skippered a YSF 420 racing dinghy to a 1st Place finish at the Steve Martin Regatta sailed March 1 on the Indian River Lagoon.
