Meet Max: A Story of Resilience, Hope, and the Power of Music

June 19, 2026

When Max was diagnosed with Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome), his family was faced with a journey filled with uncertainty. Trisomy 18 is a rare genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 18 and is often associated with significant developmental challenges and serious medical complications.
Today, at 2 years old, Max continues to inspire everyone who knows him with his strength, determination, and joyful spirit.
At VNA, we have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand how music therapy has become an important part of Max's journey. Through music, Max is able to connect, engage, express himself, and experience moments of joy that transcend medical diagnoses and limitations.
Whether it's responding to a familiar song, engaging with instruments, or sharing meaningful moments with his therapist and family, music has opened doors for communication, connection, and quality of life. These moments may seem small to some, but for families like Max's, they are priceless.
Stories like Max's remind us why programs like music therapy matter. They provide comfort, connection, and opportunities for children with complex medical needs to experience joy and reach their fullest potential.
Your support helps make these life-changing services possible for children and families throughout our community. Every donation helps us continue providing compassionate, specialized music therapy to those who need it most.
We invite you to learn more about Max's incredible story and see the impact your generosity can have by visiting the VNA website.
Together, we can ensure that more children like Max have access to the healing power of music.
Donate. Support. Make a difference.
Read Max's story on our website.

Help us bring music, connection, and hope to more families.

Happy Father’s Day from the VNA & Hospice Foundation

Today, we honor the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures who have shaped our lives with love, strength, wisdom, and quiet sacrifice. We also hold close in our hearts those fathers we carry in memory and continue to cherish every day.
At the VNA & Hospice Foundation, our mission is rooted in compassionate care—supporting patients and families through every stage of life with dignity, respect, and comfort. On Father’s Day, we are especially reminded of the importance of family, connection, and the moments that matter most.
We are grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside families during some of life’s most meaningful times, providing care that honors each person’s journey.
If you would like to support the VNA & Hospice Foundation and help us continue providing compassionate care to those in need, please visit our website to learn more and make a gift.

Hospice care is about more than medical support—it’s about comfort, dignity, and compassion for patients and families. We’re grateful to host a meaningful discussion led by our Hospice Medical Director and Hospice Chaplain as they share insight into how hospice supports individuals and families facing life-limiting illness.

If you or someone you know is considering hospice care or preparing for this journey, we encourage you to share this event with those who may benefit from attending and learning more about the support hospice can provide. On May 7, 2026, VNA & Hospice Foundation was honored to dedicate “Carol’s Corner” within Hidden Treasures in recognition of Carol Kanarek and her heartfelt commitment to compassionate care.

Carol’s journey with VNA & Hospice began during her father’s hospice care, where she experienced firsthand the comfort and support provided to patients and families. In a meaningful tribute, Carol chose May 7—her father’s birthday—for the dedication ceremony.

Carol’s Corner represents gratitude, remembrance, and the power of community. As Carol beautifully shared, “We are the community.”

We are deeply grateful for Carol’s continued support and for the love and legacy this special space will represent throughout Indian River County.
