We recently received this from the Land Manager at the Myakka State Forest:
"We will be closing the Palmetto Trail, Slash Pine Trail and the East River Road Parking lot starting 4/21/26. The timber harvest will be occurring. We are not sure how long this harvest will take. When we find out, we will let you know.

Thanks so much for your help and understanding."

Love the trails? Then love the trees. Cutting live roots harms the forest and the ride. Roots are part of the ride—and part of a tree’s life support. Cutting them weakens the forest and the trail. Please stop root cutting on Carlton Reserve trails. Let SCORR’s trail crews handle the trail maintenance. Remember, these trails weren't built for one of us, they were built for all of us.

Today, volunteers tagged over 1,300 trees along the first 3 miles of the Palmetto Trail in the Myakka State Forest. The forestry service will be logging the same area and hopefully this will help avoid any damage to the trail. There will be some trail closures during the logging operation. Thank you to our amazing volunteers John, Mike, Chris, Eric & Zack.

Tomorrow evening, Tuesday the 10th, we ride! Meet at 6 p.m. at the Palmetto trailhead on East River Road. Bring lights, as you might need them at the end of the 10-mile ride to the Myakka River and back.
See you there! SCORR
