The entire 9th grade class of Vashon High School (VHS year 2024-2025) took on the challenge of drawing every bone in the body of Singer the gray whale that washed up on Vashon's shore.

A selection from hundreds of drawings created during a six-week unit with Vashon Nature Center (VNC) in the local high school biology and marine science classes are being hung for display the month of June on VCA's atrium wall.

Each of the 150 students were paired with one of the approximately 160 bones in the 39.5-foot skeleton and asked to make progressively more detailed field notes about their single piece of Singer.

SNEAK PEAK - Opens Friday, June 5. First Friday Artist Reception 5-8pm

Artists from across the region—and as far away as Brazil—have filled the gallery with vibrant interpretations of life beneath the waterline.

"Deep Water Dialogues: Art Beneath the Surface" brings together diverse artistic perspectives on marine ecosystems, from kelp forests and fish to marine mammals and the unseen worlds that sustain ocean life. The exhibition features painting, sculpture, photography, glass, wood, and mixed-media works that invite us to look deeper and consider our connection to the waters around us.

This is the final weekend to experience Pam Ingalls’ remarkable collection of **90 portraits of Vashon musicians**.

The portraits themselves are stunning, and what makes this exhibit truly special is both size of the collection and Pam’s personal reflections on each artist. Some were longtime friends, some were new discoveries and all are now filling the gallery walls.
