What a week at Fly Fishing Camp! 🎣🌲💙

Ten lucky kids spent an unforgettable week exploring the incredible waters of the Pacific Northwest, from rivers to a lake to the ocean, and discovering just how much there is to love, learn, and protect.

A huge thank you to the amazing Emerald Water Anglers team, and for bringing this experience to life with us. From casting and tying flies and learning about wild fish and their habitats to grabbing snorkels and getting an underwater view of the ecosystems we care so much about, every day brought a new adventure.

These kids didn’t just learn how to fly fish. They came away with a deeper connection to our watersheds, the creatures that call them home, and new ways to appreciate and care for the beautiful places of the PNW.

Ten kids. One outstanding week. Big smiles, new skills, endless curiosity, and a whole new appreciation for the waters and wild creatures of the Pacific Northwest.

Here’s to the next generation of anglers, explorers, and watershed stewards! 🐟🌊🎣

🎣 Fly Fishing Camp Day 1!

We kicked off the week at the seashore, learning the art of fly fishing with our friends at Dave & Joseph From gear, casting and knots to types of rivers & insect life cycles, our young anglers jumped right in.

And this is just the beginning, new waters and new adventures await each day!

One of the unexpected gifts of last week's summer camp

The sound of paddles.
Canoes gliding across the water.
Songs carried on the breeze.

Children paused.
The day paused.

A reminder that some of the most meaningful moments aren't planned, they're simply received.

We're grateful to the Indigenous canoe families for sharing this living tradition and for the opportunity to witness it with respect, gratitude, and wonder during our beach day at summer camp.

Stories are at the heart of the Vashon Wilderness Program experience.

Throughout the year, our mentors share stories that spark imagination, pass along timeless wisdom, inspire curiosity, and help children deepen their relationship with the natural world. Gathered beneath the trees, around a campfire, or sitting together on the beach, stories become a way to slow down, listen, and connect.

This photo features Mentor Jacqui, one of our incredible storytellers. With warmth, humor, and a gift for bringing characters and landscapes to life, Jacqui has a wonderful way of captivating children and inviting them into the adventure. Her stories encourage wonder, courage, kindness, and a deeper sense of belonging in nature.

✨ Storytelling is one of the oldest ways humans have learned from one another. We're grateful to keep this tradition alive with the next generation.

A cancellation means ONE lucky camper can join our Fly Fishing Camp this August!

If you have a young angler ages 12–15 who's ready for an unforgettable week outdoors, now's your chance. Campers will learn the fundamentals of fly fishing from the expert guides at Emerald Water Anglers including casting techniques, reading the water, fish habitat, stream etiquette, and conservation.

Whether they're brand new to fly fishing or excited to build their skills, this is an incredible opportunity to connect with nature, build confidence, and make lasting memories.
