Last week at The Buckwheat Farm Walk & Talk we learned about the life cycle of this magical food from a plant breeder, a farmer, and a baker! Thank you to Dr. Micaela Colley and the WSU Breadlab, Thomas & Fernhorn Bakery, and Jen at Wild Dreams Farm for educating & organizing!

Fun facts about buckwheat:
🌱 builds soil
🌱smothers weeds
🌱 contain rare (in veggies) antioxidant rutin, essential minerals, and protein
🌱 is gluten free
🌱is a pollinator wonderland

Calling all growers to our next Farming in Community event hosted by .alyssum. farm 🌻

Sweet Alyssum Farm is owned and operated by Alyssa O'Cotter, growing cut flowers and hops. The fields are planted with over 100 varieties of flowers, both annuals and perennials. as well as four varieties of hops that tower on 18-foot trellises. The farm sells through multiple channels including wholesale, farmers markets, CSA, a farmstand and you-pick, and direct retail orders. Farming practices incorporate low tillage, preventative IPM with beneficial insects, crop rotation, cover cropping and regular foliar feeding. Early June we'll see the transition from spring to summer crops and climbing hop vines.

we are SO EXCITED about this!! tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell that person you just ran into in at thriftway! we are back for our 3rd annual Harvest Party and this year we have SO many activities for kids, music, amazing food, and pigs! mark your calendars and come celebrate the end of the harvest season and the bounty of this island 💚

All summer, we freeze dry produce so our community has access to nutritious fruits and vegetables over winter! You can be part of this by picking blackberries! We have a pretty awesome hand made trophy for this years winner! 💜 https://www.vigavashon.org/events/pick
