Nothing like a fresh snack before bed.
Rebel, Budd, Ivy, and Phineas are in critical care for different reasons, however they all love living right next to the sanctuary garden.

So I got a few messages about Crickets daddy, here he is, the king if all kings....Kingi!

Hes a super old goatie at 17, has most of his teeth, but they kind of look like they've been rotted down due to a drug addiction., but more likely because he didnt have adequate feed. You can see father and son both have that super cute toothy smile.

With boys are so incredibly sweet, love face scratches and adore all things food related.
Kingi is at OGH in assisted living, two of his boys Jiminy and Cricket are out our satalite location for the summer and his youngest son Brolin is in critical care. Brolin has always struggled with keeping weight on amd is incredibly shy, so its the perfect place to have his needs met and be just across the fence from his dad.

The grass across the 22acres is knee deep everywhere and the goats are loving it!!!
Everything is well over 3inches, so no fear of parasite loads in shorter grass over the full moon. When parasites are at their worst for vulnerable goaties.

I woke up this morning to shock and heartbreak as I realized that Mouse was on her way to Rainbow Bridge. I took her out into the sunshine, loving on her and gently petting her as she took her last few breaths.

Although I was shocked and her passing was completely unexpected, in those few moments I had to remind myself that she was an older bunny in the grand scheme of things. The last six years flew by. She was already two years old when we rescued her in 2020 as part of a group of 14 rabbits who had been dumped. We were only able to rescue eight of them before all trace of the others disappeared.

Mouse was the youngest of her fluffle and was definitely a third generation bunny from that original rescue. She was a shy little girl, but oh so cute. She would sit up like a meerkat, her tiny white paws hovering in the air.

She simply loved watching the world around her and loved to binky her way across the garden, infact thats what she was doing yesterday, which made today even harder.

She lived in a fluffle of four, three girls and one boy, and was clearly at the bottom of the pecking order. I decided to see if I could bond her with Charles from the second large rabbit rescue. Charles was the father of many of the bunnies who have recently passed away.

Mouse adored Charles, and with him she completely came out of her shell. We got to see her petite, beautiful, inquisitive little personality shine.

I am so grateful that we could be there for her this morning as she made her journey to Rainbow Bridge.

We are all feeling a little sad. The tears have flowed freely this week, but I firmly believe in feeling all the feelings and then reminding ourselves how much they loved their lives and how much we loved them.

Rest in peace, little lady. We miss you already. ❀️

Its been a very long, hard week at OGH.

Just two days after Dale passed away, the tinest bunny of Koala Thymes babies passed away.

Chip and Dale were almost identical looking, except Chippy was smaller what some may call the runt of the fluffle, but to me he was the bravest, spiciest, sassiest little man who secretly loved to snuggle under my chin. He would press his face up there and his body would relax and flop into me.

He was the only bunny who loved to have his nails done and loved to relax back into my legs as I clipped and filed away. He hated to be groomed (he preferred to groom himself), he did not like being alone. Infact he bonded first with Eucalyptus one of his brothers. When he passed away, he bonded with Roo, another of his brothers until he passed away. I hesitated putting him back with Dale as when they were young Dale had bitten into his man privates. I watched like a hawk, but they tolerated each other well and became best friends fast.

These bunnies were incredibly in**ed, so I knew we wouldn't get a normal life span with these buns, but this was truly heartbreaking to feel the loss of these two brothers in a week. There is only one bunny left of Koalas fluffle at OGH.

Chippy may have been a spicy little bunny but he was so loved. Being the smallest he had to fight so much harder to be part of the in crowd amongst the fluffle, which gave him an extra special place in my heart. I talked with Chippy every day, telling him how smart, handsome and sweet he was.i cuddled him a little longer than the others, because I knew he loved it. Im going to miss him so much, you just never realise the time spent with each one is so precious, but im so glad he was greeted by almost his whole family, who hopped with him all the way to rainbow bridge.

Rest in peace feisty, sassy, loveable little dude πŸ’šπŸ’šπŸ’š

Smee has taken his leave from OGH and is on his way to the Rainbow Bridge. πŸ˜žπŸ’šπŸ

Smee was never a sickly boy, but over the last two years he struggled to maintain his weight. We knew something deeper was going on when he began losing his teeth far earlier than he should have.

For the past six months, he has been in and out of critical care, and more recently lived in our hospice stall where he received round-the-clock monitoring and support. Last week, he spent several days in the ICU after collapsing and being unable to get back up. No matter how much we helped, his body was simply growing tired.

On Saturday, volunteer Jennifer spoiled him with bananas, love, and companionship. He soaked up every moment, and we are so grateful she was able to spend that special time with him.

Smee was one of the sweetest, goofiest, most snuggly boys you could ever meet, with just a tiny bit of spice. He formed a special bond with Peter Pan and happily adopted Texas as his boyfriend, protector, and constant companion. He spent his days with the LaMancha 12, playing butty-head, leaping over tractor tires, and rolling down sunny hillsides like a professional.

Before coming to OGH, Smee was picked on at his previous rescue. Here, he found what every goat deserves: friendship, deep bonds, safety, sunshine, and an endless appreciation for all things food-related.

Rest easy in the sunshine, sweet boy. We miss your goofy face already, but we are so grateful for every moment we shared with you. πŸ’š

Until we meet again, Smee.

We said goodbye to another friend last week, a little bunny who arrived in this world through heartbreak, but lived every single day with spirit, sass, and softness.

Dale was born here at the sanctuary after one of the most devastating rabbit rescues our community had ever seen. What began as β€œfree roaming bunnies” quickly became generations of unchecked inbreeding and suffering. Many of the rabbits born into that situation carried the weight of it in their tiny bodies..... eye problems, heart defects, ingrown eyelashes, and fragile health that they never asked for.

And yet somehow, out of all that pain, came Dale.

Dale was spunky from the very beginning. He had those unmistakable thumpy little feet that could announce his opinion from across the room. He was a snuggler when he wanted to be soft, warm, and impossibly sweet, but he also meant business when he had decided outside time was over, or when he spotted the dreaded nail trim coming his way. He carried himself with the confidence of a bunny ten times his size.

For three and a half years, Dale reminded us that joy can still exist inside a body that struggles. That personality can outshine broken genetics. That even animals born from neglect and human irresponsibility still arrive worthy of love, comfort, dignity, and safety.

His little heart simply could not keep going.

It feels deeply unfair that a bunny so full of life only got such a short time here. But what a life it was, safe, adored, protected, and known. He was never β€œjust another rescue rabbit.” He was Dale. Our thumpy little troublemaker. Our snuggly boy. Our spicy little soul.

I imagine him reunited with his mumma Koala and his brothers, Eucalyptus and Roo, healthy, whole, and racing free somewhere without pain or failing hearts.

I will miss the sound of those thumpy feet.I will miss the attitude.I will miss the cuddles given on his terms.I will miss our little spunky bunny more than words can say.

Run free, sweet Dale. You were loved for every single beat of your tiny heart.

Thelma came to OGH with her sister Louise in early 2021. Both ladies were "jumpers" and the family could no longer keep them contained for their own saftey and the saftey of others.

Both were not super human friendly, but boy did that change for Thelma.

Thelma wasn't as healthy as her sister and her immune system really started struggling 3years ago. Since then shes bern in several different stalls, but ultimately landed in Critical Care the last year.

I knew her time here was getting shorter when she became a frequent flyer in the ICU.
Her mind was perky, happy, and so sweet and loving. That changed pretty quickly when she was needing month to month parasite treatments. That is generally a pretty big sign the body is beginning to slow down and stop fighting to stay healthy.

She came right a week ago and I popped her back in critical care as the weather was beautiful and sometimes their mental health requires yo be outside on those good days.

On Friday, Thelmas body was done and she passed away in her sleep. There was no sign of struggle, she was curled up in a corner like at some point her heart had just stopped beating.

Its never easy to see a OGH family member not doing well, but theres always something truly peaceful for me after a passing, where I know in my heart it was the very best thing for her soul to be free of a body that is failing. Theres a lot of gratitude to be had for a long life lived, a peaceful passing, and a love that never dies. πŸ’šπŸπŸ’š

Rest in peace little lady, we miss you already 😒

This will be the third day running ive tried to create a post, I go to post it and all the writing disappears. You know peeps its pretty defeating when you're not that funny, but you try to rock out some good content and then the whole thing disappears and you cant remember what you wrote.....I just walked away people, theres clearly some app issues.

Sooooo if you've read this far...winning!
These are some old goaties!!!
Polar is up first...hes a gentle giant, eith minimal arthritis in his front knees, no teeth, and offers the comfort of a mother when her kids are sick. Yup those are his vibes, twenty years old and still caring for others.

Pete 17, Baguette 15, and Bonjour 15 are all in assisted living. Baguette is the quiet child in the corner reading books, sipping tea and cuddling up to his bestie Texas for an afternoon nap.

Bonjour, sticks to himself and is an eating machine with the last few teeth he has.

Pete, is a coughing, farting, snoring freight train, eager to be in your space constantly and ready to knock you over at a moments notice.

Last but not least Bella, a 17 year old whos been having pretty severe strokes that seem to be getting closer together and getting more severe. Her condition is not great, but her immune system is on fight mode everyday. She loves to wake and bake....in the sun people!!! She rarely leaves her space to eat grass, infact im pretty sure she survives on gummy mush and chaffhaye, so theres always an endless supply.
