🚨 UPDATE ON OUR EMERGENCY GOAT 🚨

Unfortunately, they waited too long to call us.

The veterinary team has confirmed that his bladder has ruptured, and he is being taken into emergency surgery tonight at UC Davis.

When he was relinquished to us, he had been unable to urinate for over a week. We knew time was critical, but we were praying we had gotten him help in time. Sadly, the damage was more severe than we hoped.

Right now, all we can do is trust his amazing veterinary team and pray they can save his life. 🙏🏻❤️

This sweet 1-year-old boy was relinquished to us rather than being sh@t in the head. No animal deserves that fate, and we could not turn our backs on him.

The estimated cost of his emergency surgery is $3,200–$4,500. Our medical fund is extremely low, but we are committed to giving him every chance possible. If you are able to donate even $5 or $10, it truly helps. Every dollar goes directly toward his emergency medical care.

Most importantly, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers tonight. He needs all the positive energy he can get. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

🆘 EMERGENCY INTAKE 🆘

We are rushing this precious 1 year old goat to UCDavis. He was relinquished to us tonight rather than being sh@t in the head.

He is very lethargic- unable to urinate for over a week. We are praying we are not too late.
He is from the same people that Bay and her Baybees came from.

Our medical fund is extremely low, but we could not say no to this boy as we did not want the alternative.
If you were able to donate even five or $10. It would really help towards his medical. It all adds up and we appreciate every dollar. 🙏🏻❤️

Today, Bernard decided to problem-solve while trying to get my Diet Coke 🥤 ❤️

First, he pulled the straw out of my cup.

Then, when that didn’t get him any closer to the Crispy Diet Coke, he started working on removing the lid.

That’s right. An emu attempted to disassemble my drink like a tiny feathered engineer.

Meanwhile, I was trying to explain that:
1. The Diet Coke is not for emus.
2. The straw is not a toy.
3. The lid is supposed to stay ON the cup.

Bernard listened carefully and then immediately continued his mission.

These emus are part bird, and part toddler. If given enough time, I’m pretty sure Bernard could figure out how to place his own order at the drive-thru.

For the record, Bernard did not get any Diet Coke.

But he definitely won the 🏆 for entertainment. 🤣🤣

Broody season is rough! 😂
Sometimes you sit on an egg…
and sometimes you sit on your friend who’s sitting on an egg. 🤷🏼‍♀️🥚🐔

Just a couple of hens doing their best to hatch absolutely everything in sight, including each other. ❤️

I’d say Bernard has absolutely no concept of personal space… and, I am good with that! 🥰

Piglet had his very first vet appointment today! ❤️🐷

Our wonderful farm vet, Dr. Michael with Blue Range Mobile Vet, came out to give Piglet his vaccinations and collect blood for routine disease testing.

We are not concerned that Piglet has any diseases, but every animal that comes to Funky Chicken Rescue is tested just to make sure they are healthy and to protect the rest of the sanctuary family.

The appointment went very smoothly... at least for Piglet! 😆

Everest, however, had some opinions. He spent the entire appointment barking because he was not happy that anyone was touching his baby. Everest has already decided that Piglet belongs to him, and he took his guardian duties very seriously today. Every poke, prod, and exam was closely supervised by a very concerned livestock guardian dog.

We are so grateful to Dr. Michael and the team at Blue Range for helping keep our rescued animals healthy.

Welcome to sanctuary life, Piglet. Your family is already looking out for you. ❤️🐷

* Piglet’s vet appointment was $232 (receipt in messages), if you are able to donate any amount towards his vet appointment we would truly appreciate it.

Compassion over a Paycheck ❤️

At Funky Chicken Rescue, we are honored to be home to three animals whose families made an extraordinary choice.

These animals were originally part of 4-H projects and were being raised for market. When the time came, their families could have taken them to auction and received money for them. Instead, they chose compassion.

Because of those decisions, these three animals are now safe at Funky Chicken Rescue. They will never have to face the stress of an auction, a trailer ride to slaughter, or an uncertain future. Instead, they get to spend their days enjoying sunshine, friendship, good food, and all the love they deserve.

We know these decisions are not always easy. They often require families to go against tradition and choose a different path. We are incredibly grateful to the parents and kids who followed their hearts and gave these animals a chance at life.

Every rescued animal has a story, but these stories are especially powerful because they began with a choice: Compassion over money. Life over slaughter. Love over profit.

To the families who entrusted us with these precious animals—thank you. Your kindness changed their lives forever. ❤️🐷🐑🐐

Today we took in this precious little man named Piglet. ❤️

Piglet is a seven months old lamb, and was part of a 4-H program. Thankfully, he did not make weight for the Dixon May Fair. His family had the option of trying to fatten him up and take him to the county fair, but his mom fell in love with him. Really… how could you not look at that face and fall in love?

Piglet’s mom chose compassion and made the decision to rehome him to our sanctuary instead. We are incredibly grateful for her kindness and for giving Piglet the chance to live a long, happy life.

The whole sanctuary is buzzing tonight, with everyone trying to catch a glimpse of the new baby. All the animals are excited about our newest arrival. Our guardian dog, Everest, has already claimed Piglet as his own. Piglet is currently in quarantine in an area next to other sheep and Everest. Everest won’t let any of the sheep get too close. He is sleeping right along the fence line, keeping watch over his new little friend.

He knows Piglet is a baby, and he knows babies need a little extra protection and a whole lot of love. ❤️

Welcome to the family, Piglet

* If you would like to sponsor Piglet for $30 a month, please message the page.

🚨 LAST DAY!! 🚨

Today is the last day to purchase a brick for our Duck Pond Brick Fundraiser and be included in the initial installation!

Bricks will continue to be available for purchase after today, but those orders will be installed at a later date.

Once the bricks have been engraved and professionally installed, everyone who purchased a brick in this first round will be invited to a special Pond Warming Party to see the pond, visit the rescued animals, and find their brick along the walkway.

Thank you to everyone who has supported this project. Your generosity is helping us create a beautiful space for both the ducks and the people who come to visit them.

🦆❤️ Link to the brick fundraiser is in the comments below. ❤️🦆
