Here at Twitchy Noses, every bunny gets their very own stuffie. That means during quarantine, every foster home shift, and even to their forever home... Unless they try to eat the eyes off of their new best friend (we're looking at you Dusk).

Why do we do this?

Think about coming into a home you have never seen before, after being chased by a bunch of giants who are trying to rescue you from a bunch of terrifying predators. You are experiencing new sights and smells while still feeling like you have to fight for your life. You're wide eyed, shaking, and having a hard time realizing you're safe. Then these giants gives you this soft plush object that is kinda fun to groom and snuggle with, and bam! You have a new best friend. They don't talk back, don't run away, and are always there when you need some comfort.

These rescue buns go through a lot of change, and we want to make these transitions as easy as possible. We've seen that giving a bun something to call their own, put their scent all over, and groom for comfort has really helped with their transition.

So just know that when you adopt from us, its a package deal: a bunny... and their best friend.

Oh, beautiful Moon. We’re getting there. 🌖

Moon was bonded with Mama Earth, but unfortunately their bond broke a while ago. Which is fine, it happens. Parents are allowed to have their own lives apart from their children! So we didn’t judge, we just moved on.

But then we started to see why the bond might have struggled. Moon is well… opinionated. And when we say we feel like the classic clueless guy that can’t figure out why his girl is mad at him, we weren’t really sure what Moon was so frustrated about either.

Moved her water dish? Bad move. Pet her for one second longer than was approved? Might as well just call the cops.

And for a while we were worried, because we couldn’t figure out what we needed to do for Moon to feel safe enough to just distance herself, rather than lash out. But we had the same issue with Mistletoe for a long time. And then recently Moon has turned a new leaf, just as Mistletoe once did. She’s calming down, she’s being inquisitive instead of reactive. And in some cases that’s all that rabbit needs. More time to decompress and feel safe than others.

So yeah, it makes us nervous to talk about the rabbits that aren’t perfect yet. It makes us worried we’re going to do them a disservice by addressing it. But instead we find ourselves not speaking about them much at all… and that’s not fair.

Moon isn’t perfect yet, but she’s come such a long way. And that is worthy of praise. So, everybody please give her a warm and kind comment below and remind her that her progress is beautiful, no matter at what pace! We need to hear it, just as much as she does. 🌙

Beautiful Blue-Eyed Helena has gotten a clean bill of health and a successful spay! 💙

This beautiful girl waited so long for her rescue. She was outside from June through the middle of August… in Texas. We don’t even like to walk from the grocery store to our car in the summer heat here in Texas. Can you imagine living outside in it, getting consumed by the oppressive heat while trying to also not be consumed by a predator? It’s a living nightmare.

But she pushed through. She preserved. And now she’s safe not only from the dangers of the outdoors, but of a shortened life because of the inevitable uterine cancer she would’ve been faced with without getting spayed.

It’s only up from here sweet girl. 💙

When we get inquiries for adoptions based on breed or look, this is what we mean when we respond, “We understand you have a preference, but encourage you to meet several rabbits and see who you connect with.”

Meet Sugar Plum Fairy. She attended our recent Yoga & Buns classes. For the first bit of the class she was clearly a little uncomfortable, hopping around and unable to find where she felt fully safe in the room. That is until she ran into this man.

For the entire rest of the class she stayed by him. Laid down by him. Crawled all over him. And he was smitten with her.

She wasn’t put near him. He wasn’t trying to get her to come over. They just gravitated towards each other.

That’s why we encourage people to come to meet rabbits in person, at private meet & greets. Just like you can only tell so much about someone by their profile picture on social media, it’s the same for a rabbit’s petfinder profile. Sure, maybe it gives you an idea, but would you choose your best friend based off photo alone? Probably not.

So sure, read their profiles. Get an idea who you’re interested in. But also, be open to meeting a bun you wouldn’t normally be drawn to. Often times there is more than meets the eye. 💛

Mama’s need love too 🥹

And this mama, even more so. Her arthritis has been painful for her, and although the meds help, long term exposure to Metacam could cause other side effects. So we’ve started doing laser therapy treatments with our exotic vet to improve her condition and decrease her need for long term pain meds.

Of course these treatments cost more, but they are worth it. Because we don’t just care about our rescues when they’re here with us, but their future past us. And turning a blind eye to the issue now, isn’t truly helping Mama Earth.

If you would like to donate to Mama Earth’s health and future, we would be so grateful. These extra treatments are only available as we have the funds to do so. 💛

Does anybody else squeal with joy when they see an animal do the little 😯 face?! Something about it turns us into that long distance aunt that still squeezes your cheeks every Thanksgiving like you’re 10, even though you’re 35 with kids… 🤣

Sorry Mercury… we are that aunt. Maybe try not being so stinkin cute all the time 😅

Yoga & Buns was such a beautiful experience for all involved.🥹

The rabbits did wonderfully interacting together (supervised by volunteers), the class was healing and centering, and everyone who got to attend was absolutely overjoyed to spend some time getting to know what it’s like to interact with a rabbit. 💛

It was our first time running this event, and although there are things we want to adjust for future sessions (yes, we want to do more of these!), it really went off without a hitch because of all of the hard work the yoga studio & instructor, our board members, and volunteers put in.

We are so grateful to say that because of the generously donated time of the studio and instructor, and everybody who bought tickets, we raised over $600! That’s enough to nearly fully-vet two rescues! 😍

Keep your eyes peeled for the next classes… they will be happening! 🧘‍♀️🐇
