This week showed exactly what happens when community partners and neighbors come together.

A young man who’s been visiting us for food and essentials shared that he could qualify for a better job if he could finish his driver’s license. He’s already passed the written test — he just needs a way to practice driving. Later that same day, an organization that supports young adults aging out of foster care stopped by to see if they could refer their clients to us as a resource. When we asked if they might also help him, they immediately agreed.

We also helped a young woman gather supplies for her new apartment, and even discovered a solar system mobile — perfect for a future astronomer in our community.

These stories may seem different, but they all point to the same truth: when people with needs connect with organizations and neighbors who have resources, we create something bigger than any one of us could do alone. That’s the power of partnership. That’s the power of community.

Sometimes our plans feel small… and then God shows us something bigger. This week reminded us of that in the most beautiful ways.

We helped a friend recently released from jail start fresh with clothing for a new beginning. We supported a grandma with a microwave and clothing for her grandsons. So many moms visited for clothing, and several families received food to help them through the week. We even had a few college students stop by who needed clothing to keep moving forward.

Every one of these moments is a reminder that our wish is simply to help — and God’s plan is always greater than we imagine.

To everyone who supports this mission of providing low‑ or no‑cost food, clothing, and household essentials to families in need across Universal City and the surrounding areas… love y’all. You make these blessings possible.

💚 Never Underestimate the Power of Giving 💚

There’s a true story about a little girl named Emma that has stayed with me.

When Emma was just 5 years old, she learned that children in another part of the world were getting sick because they didn’t have access to clean water. She wanted to help provide a well, but the well cost $10,000.

Emma only had $20.

Instead of deciding that $20 wasn’t enough to make a difference, she started sharing the story and asking others to help. Over the next several years, hundreds of people joined her. Little by little, gift by gift, they eventually reached the $10,000 goal.

It’s a real story, and to me, the lesson is bigger than the well.

You don’t have to be able to do everything to do something. You just have to be willing to give what you can.

That’s what we believe at Thrifty Hippie Community Thrift Store. 🌻

This week, we were blessed to help some of our neighbors with work clothes, eyeglasses, food, and kids’ clothes.

None of those things may seem like a huge gift on their own. But when someone needs them, they can mean a whole lot.

A pair of work clothes might help someone walk into a job interview with a little more confidence.

Eyeglasses can help someone see clearly again.

Food can put a meal on a family’s table.

Kids’ clothes can help a parent stretch an already-tight budget a little further.

We’re just trying to give where we can and help make life a little easier.

And that’s the power of giving. One person gives what they can. Someone else gives what they can. Volunteers give their time. Someone donates things they no longer need. Someone shares a post. Someone walks through our doors because a neighbor told them about us.

And somehow, all those little acts of kindness become something much bigger. ❤️

We may not be able to solve every problem, but together, we can make a difference in someone’s day, someone’s week, or sometimes even someone’s life.

God bless y’all for supporting our mission and helping us continue to serve our neighbors with compassion and dignity.

This week at the Hippie, we were reminded that everybody we come into contact with has a story whether it’s a donor, a shopper or someone in need.

One of our donors brought in a wedding dress. She wanted it to go to good use, but it was an emotional decision and she was in tears when she handed the dress to Melissa. We fell so blessed to have her trust.

We also partnered with SAMMinistries, supported a nursing home with much‑needed clothing, and worked alongside caseworkers to help clients facing real challenges. Every visit, every request, every need met is another reminder of why we’re here.

Whether it’s food, clothing, or essential household items, we do our best with what we have — and we’re grateful for the chance to serve Universal City and the surrounding area with compassion and dignity.

Really wanted to focus on appreciation this week.

Shout out to Bonnie for her generous estate donations — your kindness is already helping families in need, and we are so grateful for your trust in us.

Thanks to everyone who brought in school supplies and clothing for our kids. Because of you, children in our community will walk into the new school year with confidence, smiles, and the essentials they deserve.

And heartfelt gratitude to every single shopper who chooses to shop for a cause. Every purchase helps us provide food, clothing, and household essentials to low‑income families in the Universal City area. You’re not just shopping — you’re changing lives. ♥️

This week at Thrifty Hippie, our focus was on supporting neighbors who are working hard to build a better future. Sometimes the biggest barrier to a new job isn’t skill or motivation — it’s simply having the basics to get there.

We helped one neighbor get transportation to an eye doctor so they could move forward with a new job opportunity. We purchased a bike for another gentleman who needed a reliable way to get to work. One of our friends was finally able to get off the streets (out of the heat) and move in to a room for rent. And, as always, many children received clothing, school supplies, and food so they can start the school year feeling confident and prepared.

We worked closely with caseworkers and teachers, giving what we could, because every small act of support helps someone take their next step.

Its amazing how much of a difference a little encouragement can make. At the Thrifty Hippie we’ve seen it turn into moms starting school to create better futures, families moving forward after a divorce, and children smiling with donated backpacks, clothing, and food.

It’s so easy to miss the impact a little kindness can make. We were blessed this week to have a family we helped came back today so their daughter could say thank you. She brought a huge hug — and we felt that familiar truth: helping others is the greatest joy.

Our biggest need this week is non-perishable food items for the food pantry (pasta/sauce, beans/rice, Mac & cheese, PB&J, dry cereal, poptarts, snack crackers, etc) and kids shoes.

Thank you to everyone who supports our mission to provide low‑ or no‑cost essentials to families in need in Universal City and beyond. You may not see it directly, but your kindness and generosity is making a real difference in the lives of people in need everyday.

What a beautiful week at The Thrifty Hippie!✨ Hope for the Homeless picked up blankets and clothing to deliver to those sleeping outside.✨ Local families found the clothing they needed.✨ And together, we served over 100 children with food and clothing — because no child in our community should go without.

In addition to donations of perishable food items for the food pantry, which we’re always looking for, with school almost here, we’re also collecting school supplies to provide to those who need them. Every donation helps us provide low‑cost and no‑cost essentials to our Universal City neighbors. Thank you for being part of this movement of kindness.

This week reminded us yet again why the Thrifty Hippie exists.
We watched children smile as they picked out clothes and food. We helped seniors who simply needed a little support. We delivered a wheelchair to someone healing from hip surgery and a walker to a stroke survivor who’s learning to stand again.

Samms Ministry brought in members of the homeless community who needed shoes and clothing, and because of your generosity, we had exactly what they needed.

Every act of giving becomes a ripple of hope. We are blessed to bless — and we thank God for the chance to serve.

🌼 Kindness Moves People Forward

Today at The Thrifty Hippie, kindness looked like an interview outfit, new friends at craft time, a couple starting over, and a family gathering items for their home.

Every small act helps someone take their next step in life.
