The Daughters of Penelope was the story of Alexandra Apostolides’ dream. Her desire was to create a organization with the encouragement of her husband, a devoted AHEPAN, she formed EOS Chapter #1 with 25 charter members in 1929 in California. She was elected the first Grand President of the organization in 1931.

✨ Celebrating Athena Borzeka ✨

Today, we celebrate Athena Borzeka and her remarkable term as District 5 Governor of the Daughters of Penelope.

Athena’s lifelong commitment to faith, education, service, and our Hellenic ideals has been beautifully reflected in the way she has led—with grace, warmth, and genuine care for others.

But for Chryssida Chapter 438, Athena has been so much more than our District Governor. 💙 She has been a friend, mentor, cheerleader, and true sister. She has always made us feel supported, valued, and connected, and her encouragement has meant more than words can express.

Whether celebrating our accomplishments, encouraging us through challenges, or simply showing up with her wonderful warmth and enthusiasm, Athena has made a lasting impression on our chapter and on each of us personally. Her belief in Chryssida 438 and in the women who make up our chapter has been a gift we will always treasure.

As she concludes her term, we are filled with gratitude for the time, heart, and love she has given to District 5 and to our chapter. We are so proud to have had the opportunity to serve alongside her and even prouder to call her our sister.

Thank you, Athena, for leading with your heart, for believing in us, and for making this journey so much more meaningful. We love and appreciate you more than you know! 💙✨

Warm Hearts, Warm Socks ❤️

This month, Daughters of Penelope Chryssida Chapter 438 came together make a difference, one pair of socks at a time! Our Warm Sock Collection will benefit Elijah’s Promise in New Brunswick, NJ, supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity and hardship. A simple gift of warm socks can bring comfort, warmth, and dignity to someone in need. Join us in spreading kindness, one pair at a time!

🇬🇷 Commemorating Oxi Day

October 28th marks Oxi Day, commemorating Greece’s brave rejection of an ultimatum from Italy during World War II — a moment that symbolizes the enduring spirit of national pride, unity, and resistance.

The Daughters of Penelope, together with our AHEPA family, proudly honor this legacy of courage and conviction. Just as our ancestors stood firm in defense of freedom, we continue to uphold their spirit through our service, philanthropy, and commitment to community.

Through our work supporting education, women’s empowerment, health initiatives, and civic responsibility, we strive to make a meaningful impact — one that reflects the same strength and determination that defined that historic “Oxi.”

Chryssida President & Vice President Melissa Martakis and Lia Diamandas had the honor of visiting our Karyatides sisters in Athens, Greece Veronica Tsalta and Theodora, who—together with their chapter and the support of —have lovingly maintained the Penelopean Day Care of Neo Ionia. 💙🇬🇷

This special place, serving children and families with care and compassion, has been a priority of Chryssida’s fundraising efforts—and seeing it firsthand was a moving reminder of the impact we can make when we work together.

With gratitude to our sisters in Athens for their dedication, and to all who support this mission near and far. 💫

Last night’s NJ event was a huge success!
Hosted by thei inspiring collaboration between the Daughters of Penelope and Hellenic Professional Women brought together dynamic women from across our community.

A special highlight was the beautiful presentation by Chryssida 438 sister Helene Quinn of Byzanthea Fine Jewelry, whose story and craftsmanship left us in awe.

And from Tethys 229 “Matchmaker” Maria Avgitidis was incredibly engaging and insightful—while some may not be her target audience personally, she definitely had the room captivated!

Also present D5 Lodge members as well sisters from Xanthus 149 and Alexander 250. When women come together to uplift, empower, and celebrate each other, the results are always powerful. After all, we can’t be Greek alone.
