Edward's Catholic School is to bring students and their families closer to Christ and His love. The basis of this growth begins in the home, continues in the home, and is enhanced in our school. Our school strives to be alive with truly practiced Roman Catholic teachings. We are committed to the formation of responsible Christians who are prepared for their future responsibilities to church, family and community. Our middle schoolers just finished up their first quarter!

To celebrate, Mr. Hess' painting elective got to paint on CAKES! They spent all quarter creating detailed landscapes inspired by Bob Ross, but on this day, they were free to create whatever their heart desired... the results were delightful AND delicious!

A HUGE thank you to Ms. Naranjo for baking the cake canvases and whipping up the buttercream paints! 🎨🎂

Our middle schoolers recently had the opportunity to visit our local Chobani factory! 🥛

This field trip fit perfectly into the current Social Studies and Science units -- geography, local/natural resources, and the human body! Students got to hear all about how Chobani utilizes our local resources to create their array of amazing products, and how those products fuel our body's needs. It was especially insightful to learn about the yogurt making process: from cow to counter!

Chobani is an invaluable part of our community! They support many of our local dairies (they travel less than 90 miles to source milk), provide employment to over 1,300 people, AND they practice generosity by tackling food insecurity in our valley.

A HUGE thank you to Chobani for hosting us! We learned so much! 💙

🔆STAFF SPOTLIGHT🔆

Meet Mrs. Natalie Lammers, a new addition to our staff! Mrs. Lammers is our daily specials teacher, and another of our wonderful aids!

Outside of school, Mrs. Lammers loves to watch her girls do gymnastics and other activities, staying in the cabin in Pine, driving her Razr, hunting, and just being around her family and friends!

Fun Facts about Mrs. Lammers: she loves any good book with a mystery, Missy Knaup and Denise Hart inspired her to come work at St. Ed's, and her favorite bible verse is Isaiah 41:10!

We are so happy to have Mrs. Lammers! 💙

It's the last day of what has been a wonderful St. Edward's week! Join us for Edward Fest tonight! Church Tours start soon, Bingo is at 3:30, and the Dinner/Carnival/Auction starts at 5!

All proceeds from this event will help us to renovate our church's front entrance for safety, security, and beauty! 💙

🔆STAFF SPOTLIGHT🔆

Meet one of our helpful teacher's aids! This is Mrs. Jessica Cotant! Mrs. Jessica has 5 years of education experience, and has been helping out at St. Edward's for 2 years now!

Her favorite things to do outside of school are crafting, online shopping, planning recipes, reading, and spending time with her friends at game nights or dinner parties! One item that Mrs. Jessica just CAN'T live without is a potato! She says, "I don't mess around and I leave no friends behind! I love all forms, colors, shapes, and how they are cooked in every different way!"

The Future of St. Edward's 💙

Now that we've covered the past and the rich history of our beloved church and school, what's next? What does the future hold for Catholicism in our town?

The Catholic faith is strong and growing, especially in our younger generation. They are looking for the light and truth in this crazy world and our St. Edward's church and school bring the light of Christ to all!

Father Joseph Lustig is steady at the helm of the church, and Angela Hild has been a steady force at the school for 10 years now. Together, they envision a future for St. Edward's that is full of community, faith, and God's love. 💙

The Story of St. Edward's Catholic School ⛪✏

After the Catholic community in Twin Falls was established, St. Edward's opened a three-room school in September of 1921, just after the new church was dedicated. This "school" was staffed by the Sisters of the Holy Cross. In those early years and still to this day, Catholic education meant more than reading, writing, and arithmetic. It is a way to form children in their faith while helping families pass on Catholic traditions. By 1938, the school had a graduating class of 15 students.

Over the following decades, St. Edward's became an established part of the Twin Falls Catholic community. What began as a three-room school eventually grew to serve all eight elementary grades. In 1971, the school served more than 300 students, but hard times eventually led to a school closure. However, this closure was not the end of Catholic education at St. Edward's.

In 1985, parishioners helped bring the school back to life. St. Edward's reopened with three grades and 73 students. This reopening demonstrated that the community still believed a Catholic school was worth preserving and investing in. After the reopening on a smaller scale, St. Edward's Catholic School took time to rebuild and reestablish. In 2019, we were finally able to expand into serving middle school, all the way through 8th grade. The modular classrooms were installed in the fall of 2020, and we have now had 6 graduating classes of 8th graders!

As we celebrate 40 years of St. Edward's reopening, our mission remains the same -- centered on helping God's children grow through faith and knowledge. 💙

St. Edward the Confessor, Twin Falls, ID ⛪

Today, we'd like to offer some history on our very own church! Starting way back in 1904, the very first Mass was offered in a small Twin Falls house. After these Masses became more frequent, the people longed for a real church. The Pioneers of Twin Falls turned this dream into a reality!

In 1905, after the TF Canal Company donated land (located at the corner of 2nd Ave. E.), the men of the parish built a small wooden church. On the Feast of St. Edward, the church was dedicated by Bishop Alphonse J. Glorieux of the Diocese of Boise. This small church was the house of worship until 1921.

As the congregation slowly grew in Twin Falls, it was clear that a new church was needed. Property was acquired at a familiar address, the corner of 6th Ave. E. Ground breaking took place in June of 1920, and the new church was dedicated on June 28, 1921.

In 1960, the church interior was painted, marble altars, chandeliers, tabernacle, and new flooring was installed. Four years later, the Parish Hall was built on the corner of 7th Ave. New additions to the church in 1972 were the mosaics of the Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Guadalupe.

We love our beautiful church, and are so blessed that all those in history worked hard to build the Catholic community that we know today! 💙

Why the Ring? 💍

Many depictions of St. Edward the Confessor show him holding a ring. It's one of the most common symbols of St. Edward. Have you ever wondered WHY? Well, it's all to do with a medieval legend...

According to the legend, St. Edward the Confessor was returning from church when he encountered a poor beggar asking for help. Having no money to give him, Edward removed a precious ring from his own finger and gave it to the man. Years later, two English pilgrims traveling in the Holy Land met an elderly man who returned the ring to them. He revealed that he was St. John the Evangelist and asked them to return the ring to Edward, telling them that the king would join him in heaven in six months.

When the pilgrims returned to England and delivered the message, Edward understood it as a sign that his death was approaching. He died about six months later, in January 1066. The story became an important part of his legacy, symbolizing his generosity, humility, and holiness.

Today, St. Edward continues to be depicted holding a ring in religious artwork. Although the legend describes a precious ring traditionally identified as a sapphire, the story's emphasis is on its spiritual meaning rather than the gemstone itself. 💙
