In 2018 we ran across this young driver following his GPS to take some folks from an assisted care center in Twin Falls back home from seeing the hummingbirds. He almost made it to Williams Reservoir before we ran across them. It took some work to help him find a place to turn around. Proof that you don’t trust your gps, and just because it is a road doesn’t mean you should go in it. The folks said they were having a lovely time but had they continued they would have been stranded since the roads in that area are no place for the type of vehicle they were in.

See that post laying on the ground? The one that someone knocked down or winched out of the ground? That is to keep larger machines off of 50 inch trails. Yes, trail 920 was a road at one point in the past, but in inventory it is a trail. The rancher has a key to access it for his sheep camp. It is also available for fire fighters. People may not like it, but that’s how it works. Although we agree that its location was in a poor spot and made it hard to get through (including this authors Maverick Trail), tearing it out is is not how to solve that problem if that it’ll what their intention was….

To all our friends with an ATV or 50” side by side, If you ride in the mountains, please consider joining, without club members like us the trails will not stay open. The forest service is so short handed that they cannot even come close to doing what we can do. Just belonging to one of the Facebook groups to ride doesn’t keep the trails open or help expand the trail system. Without us, the Fawn Springs and Jones creek trails would not have opened some years back.

We also were able to secure the atv crossovers and their installation on Fawn Springs trail last summer after inviting Idaho Parks and Recreation to one of meetings. They asked what they could help with and a few weeks later they were sitting at the forest service yard and installed last spring.

The more members we have, the larger the voice we carry as an officially recognized organization.

Also a shout out to the MVTMA Magic Valley Trail Machine Association for their work on the motorcycle trails. We encourage everyone with a motorcycle to also look into joining their club if you ride in the mountains

Also consider joining the Blue Ribbon Coalition to support public land access on a national level.

The 916 trail, which escapes my memory as to its name, is only 1/3 mile long and dead ends at a view point. On Thursday, a small group reported that it was blocked at the trail junction. They worked for about an hour and gave up. Saturday the whole crew spent hours and hours clearing it. There were small sections without downed trees but it was mostly just one buck mess of pickup sticks. In the end we counted 162 freshly cut trees and that doesn’t count all the ones cut and thrown clear off the side of the trail. Without us, this trail would not have been cleared. Amy, who only learned how to use a chain saw the week before, shows that us men should sometimes get out of the way.
