Weekend Highlights: Celebrating a Centennial Scholar at the Capstone
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated – Beta Eta Zeta Chapter proudly reflects on a memorable and meaningful graduation weekend at The University of Alabama, celebrating the accomplishments of Skyler Evans, a $125,000 Centennial Scholarship Recipient (2022) through the Zeta National Educational Foundation (ZNEF).
From arrival to commencement, the weekend was filled with moments of pride, connection, and celebration. Skyler, whose journey has been marked by academic excellence, leadership, and service, crossed the stage as a distinguished member of the speech and debate team and a leader within the campus community.
The celebration was further elevated by the presence of Dr. Valerie Hollingsworth-Baker, Chair of ZNEF, whose attendance underscored the powerful impact of scholarship investment and sisterhood. She was joined by ZNEF leadership and supporters, including Shernette Morrison, Dr. Zakia Robins-McNeal, and Dr. SoJuan Crenshaw, along with Skyler’s family and chapter representatives.
The weekend included a warm welcome and guest arrivals across campus, followed by meaningful moments of fellowship and connection with ZNEF leadership. Celebratory gatherings were held in honor of Skyler’s achievements, culminating in the graduation ceremony, which recognized years of hard work and dedication.
Photo highlights captured special moments throughout the weekend, including Skyler with Dr. Valerie Hollingsworth-Baker upon arrival, a ZNEF leadership group photo at The University of Alabama, a pre ceremony celebration with family and chapter members, Skyler crossing the stage at commencement, and post graduation celebration and fellowship moments.
The weekend also served as a reminder of ZNEF’s enduring commitment to educational access and excellence. In March 2022, ZNEF presented a $10,000 gift to support the Autherine Lucy Endowed Scholarship in honor of Autherine Lucy Foster, a beloved member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, further strengthening its partnership with The University of Alabama.
As Skyler begins her next chapter, her journey stands as a powerful testament to what is possible when opportunity meets preparation and when scholarship is paired with purpose.
