Edison Prep. School Foundation Connecting students, families, faculty and alumni to advance academics and culture at Edison Prep. School in Tulsa, OK. School as the pride of Midtown! Go Eagles!

We are a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to provide vital support and continue our tradition as the pride of Midtown! The Edison School Foundation was incorporated in the state of Oklahoma in 1994 as a public non-profit organization and was granted 501(c)(3) status by the Internal Revenue Service. The focus of our board is funding excellence in academics, athletics, and culture at Edison School. We consider grant proposals for classroom curriculum, educational supplies, continuing education for faculty, department needs, support for athletics and clubs, as well as physical improvements to our campus. Grants are issued based on a submitted request and then measured against a rubric that helps insure that our monies are have the greatest effect to the most students. We do welcome designated donor gifts from alumni and community supporters. These gifts enable donors to make a restricted tax-deductible donation to the Edison departments of their choice. The efforts of this Foundation are vital to continuing the Edison values of truth, honor, loyalty and the legacy of Edison Prep.

The Edison Prep. School Foundation will be meeting Monday, Sept 14th at 6:30pm in the Edison Library. We hope you can join us!

In the past year, we awarded Grants to Edison groups totaling more than $26,000. Some of these grants include: 2, 8th grade classes by providing Pre-ACT tests for 600 students, funds for restringing instruments for Orchestra, providing funding for consumable art supplies to the HS Art Department, assistance in sending 2 Special Ed teachers to Summer conference, providing new equipment for the weight room in the EPAC and travel soccer bags for boys’ soccer.

Every year we receive requests from teachers, admin, coaches and extracurricular sponsors for Edison groups that need financial assistance to provide our students with what is needed to excel. Come to the Foundation meeting Monday and see what we’re about. YOU are welcome! We are adding members!

Tune in to KOTV tomorrow at 9:30 am to see two Edison graduates share about their upcoming play at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center called “Ahead of Their Time”. It is making its regional debut next week. We would love to invite all students, staff, and families to come this wonderful play, September 10-13. The cast and crew proudly features three Eagle Theatre alumni, Mikaela Bonilla (‘21), Drew Sears II (‘20), and Jameson White (‘21). We are so proud of their representation of Edison’s amazing theatre and arts programs.

Ahead of Their Time is a 90-minute play based on the true story of four generations of women. Spanning from 1893 to 2002, Ahead of Their Time tells the stories of these women’s hardships, loves, losses, and their struggle to take power in a world that doesn’t want them to have it. It will make you laugh, make you cry, and give you hope . It is a testament to the people who came before us and took brave risks.

The Edison Prep School Foundation is excited to partner with the Tulsa PAC to present an original play “Ahead of Their Time”, written by and featuring several Edison Alums! To celebrate this event a post featuring an Edison Prep alumni working in the arts and entertainment industry will made over the next several weeks. We begin with successful actor Robert Peters.

Robert Peters is an esteemed film and television actor. After working in the industry for more than 30 years, Robert has appeared in more than 150 films, in addition to many recurring television roles and hundreds of national commercials. He has also spread his talents to filmmaking, in which he has won many awards for, including being shortlisted for an Academy Award.

Robert credits his many successes to the foundation he was given while attending Edison Middle and High School. “The commitment and dedication of Barbara Slagle (in junior high at Edison she introduced us to Shakespeare), to Jack Henry and Barbara Burkett, who motivated me to always pursue a deeper understanding of the roles I was playing (like Elwood P. Dowd in the classic play Harvey), to very edgy stories like The Playroom where I played a leader of a gang who came from a broken family.”

He and Ms. Slagle are still very close, “She has had more impact on theater students than you can possibly imagine.”

Robert also spent his time at Edison as an assembly planner, in which he wrote most assembly scripts. “They allowed me to write some pretty edgy comedy at the time.”

The opportunities, inspiration, and artistic disciplines he received at Edison, starting in junior high with teachers like Barbara Slagle, were truly the foundation of his pursuit of the entertainment industry.

And please join three other Edison alumni – Drew Sears, Class of 2020 and Mikaela Bonilla and Jameson White, Class of 2021 who are premiering an original play next month at the Tulsa PAC. “Ahead of Their Time” was written & directed by Jameson and will have five performances, September 10 – 13.
