💔 CONTENT WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES OF SEVERE EYE INFECTIONS
I’ve seen a lot of heartbreaking things in rescue, but this is genuinely one of the worst.
We have a feral mama cat and her five tiny kittens coming into our care from Oklahoma City, and three of her babies are in absolutely devastating condition.
They are suffering from severe upper respiratory infections, and the damage to their little eyes is heartbreaking. We are facing the very real possibility that some of these babies may need to have their eyes surgically removed.
I honestly don’t even want to share these pictures.
They’re incredibly difficult to look at. Even after everything I’ve seen doing rescue, these photos made my stomach drop.
But I’m sharing them anyway. Because this is what real rescue looks like.
It’s not always adorable kitten pictures, happy adoption announcements, and heartwarming success stories.
Sometimes it’s looking at a tiny kitten whose eye is so severely damaged that you don’t know if there’s anything left to save.
Sometimes it’s knowing that a baby who has barely had a chance to experience life is already facing unimaginable challenges.
And sometimes it’s taking on a situation that absolutely breaks your heart because you know someone has to give these animals a chance.
These babies deserve that chance.
They didn’t ask to be born into these circumstances. They didn’t ask to get sick. And they certainly don’t deserve to suffer.
All six will be coming into our care, and the kittens will be seeing our veterinarian first thing tomorrow morning. We don’t know yet whether their eyes can be saved, how extensive their treatment will be, or what the veterinary bills will look like.
But we do know that we’re going to do everything we reasonably can to give them a fighting chance.
❤️ And we desperately need your help.
We are already a small rescue operating with limited space and resources. Taking in a mama and five kittens is a significant commitment on its own, but taking in three babies who may need extensive medical treatment and potentially multiple eye surgeries is an entirely different situation.
We can’t do this without the people who support our rescue.
If you have ever considered donating, now is one of those times when your support could truly make a difference.
Whether it’s $5, $10, $25, or simply sharing this post, every bit of support helps us get these babies the care they desperately need.
🐾 Donation options:
* Donate through our Linktree in the comments.
* Beginning tomorrow, donations can also be made directly to City Veterinary Hospital at (918) 747-1641. Just let them know you’d like to donate toward Itty Bitty Kitty Committee Rescue’s veterinary expenses.
I wish I could tell you that all five kittens are going to be okay. I wish I could promise that every eye can be saved.
But right now, we just don’t know.
What I can promise is that these babies will have someone fighting for them.
Their story doesn’t have to end with these pictures. ❤️
We’ll update everyone after their veterinary appointments tomorrow.
Please keep these babies and their mama in your thoughts tonight. 💔
