Su***de prevention is not just the responsibility of professionals. Each of us can play a part.

Sometimes prevention begins with something as simple as:
• Checking in: “How are you really doing?”
• Listening without judgment
• Taking someone’s pain seriously
• Staying connected when someone is struggling
• Encouraging support when it’s needed

We don’t always know what someone is carrying behind a smile.

Your compassion, your presence, and your willingness to listen can make a difference.

Let’s create communities where people feel safe enough to speak, supported enough to ask for help, and valued enough to know that their lives matter.

Survivors of domestic and sexual violence may experience increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors because of trauma, isolation, coercive control, fear, financial dependence, threats, and loss of support.

Abuse can leave survivors feeling trapped, powerless, or alone—but the abuse is never their fault, and help is available.

During Su***de Prevention Month, let’s remember:

💜 Believe survivors.
💜 Listen without judgment.
💜 Recognize the impact of trauma.
💜 Help survivors access safety, support, and resources.
💜 Create spaces where people feel safe to speak up.

There is hope beyond abuse. There is life beyond trauma.

It’s that time of the year! We are excited to attend the 32nd Annual Statewide Family Violence Conference!

There is something so energizing about being surrounded by advocates and professionals committed to ending domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking, while supporting and empowering survivors.

It’s wonderful to reconnect with friends and colleagues, make new connections, and continue learning together.

A heartfelt thank you to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence for organizing this important conference year after year. We are also incredibly grateful to CJCC for providing scholarships that make our participation possible.

We are thrilled to welcome Isabel Schmieta as the new Board Chair of Karibu Community Legacy, Inc.

A first-generation German American from Marietta, Georgia, Isabel brings a strong passion for human rights, immigration, and cross-cultural connection. She currently serves as a Senior Case Manager at Hope Immigration, supporting immigrants and their families through complex legal processes. She holds a bachelor’s degree from New York University and a master’s degree in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford.

Isabel is deeply committed to supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrant communities. We are excited to welcome her leadership, experience, and dedication as we continue advancing KCL’s mission.

We are thrilled to welcome Dorothee Ingabire as the new Chairwoman of Karibu Community Legacy, Inc.

Having served on the KCL Board since April 2024, Dorothee has been a dedicated supporter of our mission. With her international experience, nonprofit leadership, and passion for serving underserved communities, she brings valuable vision and commitment to this new role.
