STOCK THE SHELVES THURSDAY 🧴

Food gets a lot of attention around here.

But know what you can't buy with SNAP benefits?

Soap. Shampoo. Toothpaste. Deodorant.

And those things matter.

Personal care products help our neighbors go to work, send kids to school, head to an interview, and simply move through the day with dignity.

This week, we're asking you to help us stock:

🧴 Shampoo & conditioner
🧻 Toilet paper
🧺 Laundry detergent
🩸 Period products
🧴 Deodorant

WHY GIVE WEDNESDAY 💜

We love a good food donation. Seriously. Seeing bags, boxes and carts of food coming through our doors never gets old.

But there’s another kind of donation that can do something pretty amazing:

It can become whatever is needed most.

A financial gift gives NETWorks the flexibility to respond in real time. If the pantry is running low on a staple, we can buy it. If a refrigerator needs attention, we can fix it. If there's an unexpected expense that keeps our programs running, we can handle it.

🧴 A LITTLE HELP WITH THE “OTHER” ESSENTIALS! 🧼

Food gets a lot of attention at NETWorks—and for good reason—but our neighbors need more than groceries.

Right now, we could really use personal care and household essentials, including:

🪥 Toothpaste & toothbrushes
🧴 Shampoo & conditioner
🧼 Soap & body wash
🧴 Deodorant
🧻 Toilet paper
🩸 Period products
🧺 Laundry detergent

These are everyday necessities that can take a surprisingly big bite out of a household budget—and many cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits.

So if you're heading to the grocery store, Target, Walmart, Costco...wherever your errands take you this week:

💜 YOU Make NETWorks Work: Meet Don

It's the first day of a new month, so we're starting September with our #1.

Meet Don Cirino, Chair of the NETWorks Board of Directors—although “Board Chair” doesn't begin to cover what you might find Don doing around here.

On any given week, you might catch him...

📦 Unloading the truck on a busy Wednesday
🥫 Stocking pantry shelves alongside volunteers
🥶 Deep in the freezer getting things organized
🚛 Cleaning the truck (apparently that falls under “Board Chair”)
📊 Pouring over NETWorks' financials, making sure we're careful and responsible stewards of every dollar entrusted to us
🗣️ Or getting pulled onto the pantry floor to help with translation when a neighbor needs it

Because that's Don.

Leadership at NETWorks doesn't happen only around a boardroom table. It's rolling up your sleeves, seeing what needs to be done, and doing it.

Don brings that kind of leadership to NETWorks again and again—often quietly, usually behind the scenes, and always focused on helping us serve our neighbors well.

So we're kicking off September by celebrating our #1—our Board Chair—and one of the many people who makes NETWorks work. 💜

We’re still riding the high from celebrating Justin’s birthday yesterday — but today, we need to celebrate Jeanne Marie. ❤️

Jeanne Marie is a longtime NETWorks volunteer, and when she decided she wanted to bake cupcakes for Justin’s birthday, she reached out to our staff with a simple question:

“How many?”

And that question started a conversation.

Because Justin isn’t just loved by our staff and volunteers. He is loved by our neighbors — the people who come through our pantry doors, who know him, laugh with him, talk with him, and are part of this community right alongside us.

Of course they would want to celebrate him, too.

So what did Jeanne Marie do?

She made cupcakes for EVERYONE.

Dozens and dozens and dozens of cupcakes. 🧁

Cupcakes for staff.
Cupcakes for volunteers.
And yes — cupcakes for every neighbor who came through our doors.

Then she stayed for the day and hosted the celebration, making sure everyone had a chance to share in a little birthday joy.

This is hospitality.

It’s remembering that the people who come to NETWorks aren't simply people we serve. They are our neighbors. They are part of our community. They celebrate with us, laugh with us, care about us — and we care about them.

Sometimes hospitality looks like helping with groceries or keeping the lights on.

And sometimes it looks like making dozens and dozens of cupcakes so that everyone has a place at the party. ❤️🧁

Today we’re celebrating one of the very best — our amazing Data Coordinator, Justin! 🥳💙

Justin is one of those people who makes NETWorks better simply by being here. He keeps our numbers straight, our data organized, and somehow manages to make spreadsheets look easy — but what we love most has absolutely nothing to do with data.

It’s his huge heart, quick wit, willingness to jump in wherever he’s needed, and the genuine kindness he brings to our neighbors, volunteers, and staff every single day. ❤️

Justin is a treasured part of the NETWorks family, and we hope today he feels just how appreciated, valued, and loved he is.

Pop-tops are a big plus!

💜 Tuesdays at NETWorks look a little different.

The pantry may not be open, but behind the scenes, there’s a whole lot happening.

Shelves are stocked. Deliveries are sorted. Carts are unloaded. Coolers are filled. Floors are cleaned. Food is organized. And everything is made ready to welcome our neighbors when the doors open again.

It’s the work before the work.

The staff and volunteers who quietly make sure that when a neighbor walks through our doors, the pantry is ready — and so are we.

There are so many hands behind every pantry day at NETWorks. Hands that lift boxes, stock shelves, clean spaces, organize food, solve problems and prepare for another busy week of serving our community.

So today, a little love for the people behind the people. 💜
