🌍 June is National Immigrant Heritage Month — and we’re celebrating! UCFS‑CALC is honored to join communities across Michigan in recognizing the incredible contributions immigrants bring to our state’s culture, economy, and future. Governor Whitmer and Lt. Governor Gilchrist have officially proclaimed June 2026 as Immigrant Heritage Month, and we proudly stand with the families we serve every day.

We’re also excited to announce the return of our World Refugee Day Community Picnic on June 19 — a joyful gathering filled with food, music, activities, and cultural celebration. As Melanie Duquesnel, UCFS‑CALC President & CEO, shared: “World Refugee Day is a beautiful reminder that when we embrace our differences, we build stronger communities.”

Omar, a 38-year-old father of four and former head of security at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen, arrived in the United States with his family on December 18, 2024, after fleeing life-threatening violence in Yemen and seeking refuge in Egypt first.

After hearing about UCFS-CALC through word of mouth, Omar reached out for support. Our team quickly welcomed his family into the Ethnic Community Self-Help Program, helping them take their first steps toward stability and independence by providing:

✅ 130 essential household items including furniture, kitchen supplies, and more
✅ 62 clothing items distributed for the entire family
✅ Ongoing support as Omar works toward employment in his field

Today, Omar and his family are building a safer, brighter future, one step at a time!

We’re honored to be part of their journey.

These photos capture powerful moments from our recent MHEP session, where the mother's in our programs gained hands-on experience and earning their CPR certifications. In an emergency, knowing what to do—even for just the first few minutes—can save a life.

We believe that every parent deserves the knowledge and confidence to keep themselves and their babies safe. With your support, we can continue to advance that mission!

💙 The difference 3 years makes 💙

Through the entirety of 2023, we distributed 382,510 pounds of food from our pantry!

Through 5 months of 2026, we have distributed 265,546 pounds.

That's 70% of what we did in all of 2023 in just 5 months, and we expect to hit that 2023 number before the summer ends. We are honored to be able to meet the growing need in our community, but we can't do it without your support.

Join us in the fight to end hunger! 🤝 https://loom.ly/GOu0QpI

Today, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten.

As an organization founded, built, and run by Chaldean Americans, we are proud to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of Chaldean Americans who have proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

We pause to reflect on the true meaning of this day — not just as the start of summer, but as a time to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and the families who carry their legacy forward.
