New Jersey Chamber of Commerce

New Jersey Chamber of Commerce The New Jersey Chamber of Commerce advocates for pro-economic growth policies.

Created in 1911, the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce is a business advocacy organization based in Trenton that works for and is funded solely by our members. We represent our members on a wide range of business and educational issues at the State House and in Washington. The economic landscape of the Garden State has changed considerably since Thomas A. Edison and other business leaders signed the

original charter of the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. Although the state has transformed from an industrial society to a technological one, our goal has always been to represent the varying interests of our members and to help them clear burdensome regulatory hurdles that stifle growth. Our membership is broad-based, ranging from solo proprietors and family-owned businesses to Fortune 500 companies.

We asked NJ Chamber members: How do companies build healthier workplaces – in an era when 'mental health' is a priority

"An effective manager knows how to balance what needs to be responded to immediately and what can wait. If a manger lives in a continuous crisis mode, the crisis will end up then seeping into all parts of their lives and the lives of everyone who works below them. Managers need to set the standard. As a leader you need to be able to intrinsically model a positive work culture." - Donna Raziano, network medical director, AmeriHealth.

We asked NJ Chamber members: How do companies build healthier workplaces – in an era when 'mental health' is a priority

"Managers are culture carriers. They're not just task managers. Ask yourself: Are we unintentionally rewarding certain unwelcome behaviors in our company that we need to identify? Is being busy equated to being valuable? Is overwork being praised? As leaders, are we sending emails in the middle of the night? That’s setting a bad standard. So look at it from a holistic standpoint: What operational changes do we need to make to create a healthy work culture? It’s about allowing the team to be human. Pause before you jump into work and say: ‘How are you?’ Ask the questions: ‘How's your day?’ or ‘Tell me something about you?’ It goes a long way." - Debra Rizzi, president & partner, Rizco.

We asked NJ Chamber members: How do you attract and land top talent?

"If you want to get the top candidates, the salary has to be competitive. There’s a growing emphasis on newer benefits like flexible schedules, wellness programs, and childcare – and they matter. But for job candidates, salary is the top priority. That’s followed by health benefits. When candidates are weighing multiple offers, they closely compare the cost of health benefits from one employer to another. Retirement offerings – 401(k)s, pensions and profit-sharing – also remain a critical part of the decision." - Nick Malefyt, president, Master Search Solutions.

How NJ companies are balancing their employees' mental health with the need to get the job done:

Today’s most effective workplaces recognize that employee wellbeing and strong performance are not competing priorities. Companies that balance mental health with an effective workplace culture are finding that healthier employees are more productive, collaborative, and resilient. We asked N.J. Chamber of Commerce members to share how their managers and organizations are building healthier workplaces in 2026.

We asked NJ Chamber members: How do you attract and land top talent?
"Our approach starts with writing a skills-first job description that clearly outlines potential for growth and pay range. We also highlight benefits that are important to candidates: flexible work options, mental health support, and continuous learning stipends. Last but not least, we make it easy to apply – and we respond promptly. We don’t want to lose anyone because of an overly complicated process." - Felice Nussbaum, senior recruiter, Master Search Solutions.
