2026 Endanagered Historic Site Van Campen will host a walking tour on June 7th.

Join the teams for a special kick-off event and walking tour of the historic Van Campen Homestead, located two miles south of Millbrook Village on Old Mine Road. This event is rain or shine!

Explore the Abraham and Benjamin Van Campen houses, the Calno and Depue cemeteries, and the site of Fort “Van Kamps.” Van Campen descendants and volunteers will be onsite to provide guided tours and historic interpretation throughout the day. Visitors can also learn more about the nearby Van Campen Glen and the early colonial history of Pahaquarry.

Hosted by the Friends of Old Mine Road and Preservation New Jersey, the event will also feature information tables from the Friends of DWGNRA and the Walpack Historical Society, along with books and items for sale related to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

This effort has two important goals:
🔹 Raise funds to preserve these historic resources
🔹 Build toward future public programs and events at the site

The homesite is in urgent need of preservation work, including new roofs, electrical service, and structural repairs. A project webpage has been created to accept donations supporting these efforts.

Come out for what promises to be a fascinating and enjoyable day celebrating local history and preservation!

🏛️ Important Federal Preservation Funding Update 🏛️

This week, the House Appropriations Committee released its FY27 Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Subcommittee bill draft, proposing $163.65 million for the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) — a decrease of $17.409 million from FY26 enacted levels.

The proposal maintains level funding for many key preservation programs, including:
✔️ State & Tribal Historic Preservation Offices
✔️ Save America’s Treasures
✔️ Competitive Grant Programs
✔️ HBCU Preservation Grants

However, cuts are proposed for the Paul Bruhn Historic Revitalization Grant Program and the Semiquincentennial Grant Program, while Congressionally Directed Spending for HPF projects was not included.

The bill also proposes reductions for:
🔹 National Park Service funding
🔹 Advisory Council on Historic Preservation funding
🔹 National Endowment for the Arts & Humanities

While this proposal rejects the far deeper cuts outlined in the President’s budget request, it still falls well below the $250 million funding level preservation advocates have called for to adequately support preservation efforts nationwide.

Preservation Action continues to advocate for robust federal investment in historic preservation programs that protect and revitalize our nation’s historic places. Now is the time to contact your members of Congress and support preservation funding priorities.

Historic preservation strengthens communities, supports local economies, and safeguards the places that tell America’s story.

Dating back to 1792, the historic The Woolverton Inn is a beautiful example of adaptive reuse along the Delaware River. Once a Revolutionary War-era farmhouse, the property evolved into a Federal-style manor house and today stands as an award-winning historic inn recognized by Historic Hotels of America for Adaptive Reuse.

The property’s restored 1830s stone barn now Northridge Restaurant, is another preservation success story, carefully renovated while maintaining its original character.

From preserved architecture to pastoral landscapes and even a flock of sheep honoring the site’s farming roots, The Woolverton Inn blends history, hospitality, and sustainability in a truly special way.
