Congratulations, Cobey Meyer! 👏🎉 Cobey recently received the Colleen Fraser Self-Advocate award from the New Jersey Council on Developmental Disabilities at their Community Building Awards ceremony, honoring exceptional contributions to community inclusion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Gwen Orlowski, Executive Director and Barbara Coppens, Advocate Assistant, both of Disability Rights New Jersey were in attendance to celebrate Cobey.
Disability Rights New Jersey was fortunate to have Cobey intern with us over the summer, as a part of our 2026 cohort of Disability Advocate interns. As an active self-advocate for People First, Self Advocates Becoming Empowered, and co-chair of the TCNJ Best Buddies program, Cobey indeed advances inclusion and opportunities for the disability community. His efforts include meeting with Senators and state legislators on disability policy, collaborating on inclusive postsecondary education initiatives with the Governor’s office, and speaking nationally on behalf of his personal initiative, Meyer For Inclusion. Cobey’s unwavering commitment to advancing disability rights embodies the spirit of the award and serves as an inspiring example for others to follow. We look forward to seeing where that spirit takes him next.
