We spent the last 4 months thinking deeply about the future of arts nonprofits in the age of AI, and have designed a program to empower the collaborative use of new technology in the sector.

The Automation Lab is an applied research initiative built on a simple premise: cultural nonprofits should not have to navigate this technology shift alone.

Phase 1 is complete. We surveyed 37 organizations across Northwest Connecticut and found that administrative burden is high and consistent across every operational area, that the software landscape is deeply fragmented, and that 81% of respondents want to participate in a pilot.

Phase 2 begins this spring. We will be working directly with partner organizations to test whether purpose-built tools, grounded in the systems they already use, can outperform the off-the-shelf platforms that have left so many nonprofits feeling overbuilt and underserved.

The full research report is now public, and can be read here: https://canva.link/automation-lab

If you work in arts administration, nonprofit technology, or sector capacity building, we'd value your perspective and potential partnership as we move forward.
