STOP SCROLLING! We cannot treat this as “business as usual” in our schools.
Parents should NOT have to wonder whether warning signs were missed, complaints were ignored, or safeguards failed before anyone finally stepped in.
In Community High School District 128 & Libertyville D70, are now dealing with extremely serious allegations involving employees and students a lawsuit alleges that a former Libertyville High School teacher groomed and s*xually abused a 15-year-old student with Down syndrome, while school officials allegedly knew about prior misconduct. Those claims remain allegations.
In District 70, a longtime Highland Middle School teacher was arrested after prosecutors alleged he secretly recorded students and used AI to create s*xually explicit images of children. Now to remind everyone that
TO REMEMBER that arrest is not proof of guilt, and those allegations must go through the legal process.
But these are OUR CHILDREN.
That means parents have every right and frankly a responsibility to ask:
What did the districts know, and when?
Were warning signs and complaints properly investigated? Were required reports made? What safeguards were actually in place? And what is being done NOW to protect our kids?
This isn’t about declaring anyone guilty on Facebook. It’s about accountability, transparency and making sure our schools are doing everything legally and reasonably possible to protect children.
“Something like that could never happen here” is NOT a safety plan.
Our kids aren’t paperwork.
They’re our children. They deserve better. Period.
