How many more are there in schools all across Illinois? And how long will it take for ALL parents to PAY ATTENTION!?!? This isn’t a republican vs democrat issue. It’s about our children being protected at all costs!!
This is so screwed up. ALL teachers should be thoroughly vetted before they ever get anywhere near our kids. And I’m not talking about just a criminal background check. There should be serious psychological screening, including looking for inappropriate sexual interests or behaviors, BEFORE someone is put in a position where they have access to children.
We expect our kids to sit there and tell teachers and school staff some of the most personal things about their lives, including their mental health, family problems, fears, etc. We tell our kids to trust these adults. So why the hell are we not doing everything possible to make sure these adults are safe to be around our kids in the first place?
And this needs to be a real conversation, not something schools brush off until something happens. We need stronger screening, stronger safeguards, and real accountability for anyone working with children.
Parents need to start demanding answers from their school districts. What exactly are you screening for? What are you doing beyond a basic background check? What safeguards are actually in place?
Because “we trust our teachers” is NOT a child-safety policy. Protect the kids FIRST. Period.
