**Please note that in order to purchase tickets for the Rifle you must be 18 years or older and will be required to show proof of ID and be legally permitted to posses a fire arm.**

Joel Carmody, a Deputy with the Hood River County Sheriff’s Office, was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma in November 2025, discovering multiple tumors throughout his abdomen, lungs, and brain.

Joel began immunotherapy treatment in December, however in February 2026 he suffered a life-threatening complication that required emergency surgery. After four hours in the operating room, surgeons were forced to stop the procedure, leaving him sedated and his abdomen open for 36 hours before they were able to return and complete the operation.

The complications from his cancer and subsequent surgeries ultimately forced Joel to medically retire from law enforcement in May 2026 after 22 years of service.

Through determination and resilience, Joel has beaten incredible odds thus far. But his battle is far from over, the cancer will require lifelong treatment, monitoring and follow up care.

The Huicochea family are residents of Hood River and have lived in the Gorge for 30 years. Carlitos Huicochea is a 10 year old who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Carlitos is greatly impacted by his medical issues. He is unable to crawl, walk or talk. Despite this, Carlitos has an infectious smile, enjoys music, and watching soccer.

Carlitos is completely dependent on others for his care, mobility and will need lifelong support. He has to use a wheelchair and his parents have to lift him in and out of the car, and throughout their home. Carrying Carlitos is getting more difficult as he grows.
Medical equipment is very expensive and funding through Carlitos’ insurance is very limited and not guaranteed. Eventually Carlitos will need a vehicle that accommodates a wheelchair when he is too big to be carried.
