Join us for an inspiring evening with acclaimed Columbia Gorge artist Mark Nilsson as he shares the story behind his exhibition, Mark Nilsson: 50 Years of Art. Through personal stories, reflections, and insights into his creative process, Mark will take audiences on a journey through five decades of artistic exploration, from his earliest works to the vibrant contemporary paintings that continue to define his career.

Is archeology its own art form? You can decide for yourself after listening to community members and archeologists Jaqueline Cheung and Eric Gleason, who will be presenting on “The Chinese Community of The Dalles” on Saturday, October 24th at 2 p.m..

“In 2000, they purchased the historic Chinese Building, also known as the Wing Hong Hai Company store, on First Street. Their ongoing effort to restore the building led them into a much deeper exploration of the archaeological site and the history of The Dalles’ Chinatown.”

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! 🧡

Today, we honor the Indigenous peoples of this region, their enduring cultures, and the deep connections between Tribal communities, the Columbia River, and the lands and waters we call home.

In that spirit, TDAC, in partnership with the City of The Dalles and artisans from Columbia Gorge Community College, is currently reimagining the artwork on the roundabout on the east side of The Dalles. The project features a water mosaic and fish sculptures celebrating native fish species that have long held historical and cultural significance for the Tribes of this region.

Designed by local artist Denae Manion, these fish sculptures help tell a story of place, history, and the enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples and the Columbia River.

We’re excited to share a few images of the fish as this project takes shape! May this artwork serve as a reminder to honor Indigenous knowledge, celebrate the rich cultural history of this region, and continue building a future rooted in respect and connection.
