Did you know MCSC participates in the Bottle Drop fundraiser?

You can either bring your bottles and cans down to The Center or you can pick up bags from us to use and drop off at Fred Meyer. The bags are blue and must have our tag on them to be counted as a donation to MCSC!

Meals-on-Wheels is a separate Non-Profit that serves meals at the Center, Monday through Friday at 12 PM. They also deliver meals to those who can not prepare nutritional meals themselves.

If you are interested in signing up for home-delivered meals, call Meals-on-Wheels at (541) 298-8333. Volunteers to deliver meals are always needed, too!

Call before 10:30 AM to pick up a meal at noon at the Mid-Columbia Senior Center.

There are a few ways you can donate to the Mid-Columbia Senior Center …

First, visiting us, attending our classes, and benefiting from what we have to offer is the main way. We want you to be encouraged, educated, and help by our organization!

Second, you can come in and give a donation in person. There are a lot of ways to donate: you can give us your old medical equipment for the loan closet, you can donate to the NU-2-U shop, you can donate “door prizes” for our events, you can volunteer your time … or you can donate financially, of course!

The NU-2-U Shop at The Center is the best kept secret in The Dalles. But we don’t want it to stay that way …

Stop by the best little thrift shop in the Gorge and see what we’ve got!

We are open from 10:00am – 3:00pm on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Many excellent articles of clothing (and other items) come and go through the doors of this shop. Prices are way below most “thrift store” prices.

The Center volunteers are working hard to continually stock the NU-2-U Shop. Stop by and check out “the best little thrift store in the Gorge.”

Need Medical Equipment? Our Loan Closet is Here for You!

At the Mid-Columbia Senior Center, we believe in neighbors helping neighbors. Our Medical Equipment Loan Closet is a community resource designed to provide essential mobility and safety tools to those who need them ... at no cost!

How It Works

Our inventory depends entirely on the generosity of people like you. Because our stock is 100% donation-based, our "shelves" are always changing. Whether you are recovering from surgery or helping a loved one stay safe at home, we may have exactly what you need.

Currently, our closet often includes:

Mobility Aids: Wheelchairs, Transfer Chairs, 4-wheel Walkers (Rollators), 2-wheel Walkers, Knee Scooters, Canes, Quad Canes, and Crutches (including Forearm Crutches).

Bathroom Safety: Toilet Seat Risers, Transfer Tub Benches, Sliding Transfer Benches, Shower Seats, Commodes, Toilet Safety Frames, and Clamp-on Bath Rails.

Home Support: Bed Rails and more.

Gorge Tax Aide

Tax filing season may be months away, but Gorge Tax Aide is already seeking volunteers who want to serve their community through the AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program. Tax-Aide focuses on serving older adults with low to moderate income and helps them secure much-needed tax refunds. Dating back to 1968, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program.

Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and range from retirees to college students.

Gorge Tax Aide is currently seeking volunteer Tax-Aide Counselors to provide tax preparation and filing services to taxpayers within the scope limits set by Tax-Aide & IRS certification.

Tax-Aide Counselors are trained, with classes generally in December or January for the upcoming tax filing season. As part of our Gorge Tax Aide team, you will be supported throughout the certification process. Then during tax filing season, February through April, you’ll assist taxpayers with your team at a local site. Chromebooks are provided.

Additionally, Greeters are needed to perform check-in duties and make appointments during the season. Greeters do not prepare taxes. Training for this position is in January.

Tax-Aide volunteers make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable older adults right in their own communities. Even modest refunds make an impact on the lives of older adults, especially those living with low incomes. You can help make sure they don’t miss out on the credits and deductions they have earned and need.

Nationally, for the 2025 tax season, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide and grantees helped more than 932,000 older adults with low incomes to secure $578 million in tax refunds and credits.

Gorge Tax Aide helped a total of nearly 900 clients at our sites in The Dalles, White Salmon and Hood River and have been serving clients for more than 45 years. We have a dynamic, warm team of volunteers who are pleased to welcome more. You can make a remarkable difference.
