The mission of the Wabash Valley Audubon Society is the same as the N.A.S. mission.

We have approximately 150 members in west-central Indiana, and seek to provide education and enrichment of the natural world through community outreach and engagement. The mission of the National Audubon Society is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for the benefit of humanity and the Earth’s biological diversity. Additionally to further this mission WVAS is involved in appropriate projects to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, interact with other local organizations and groups with similar concerns, and provide educational opportunities to the local community to increase their awareness, appreciation, and involvement in the natural world that surrounds them.

From our friends at Ouabache Land Conservancy!

Join Ouabache Land Conservancy for a James Whitcomb Riley Poetry Hike at Jackson-Schnyder Nature Preserve a fall afternoon where Indiana’s natural beauty meets the words of our “Hoosier Poet.”

Writer and photographer Mike Lunsford will lead us through woodlands home to 25 tree species, sharing Riley’s nature-focused verse and his connections to Terre Haute, including Eugene V. Debs. Experience the poetry in the kind of forested Midwestern landscape that inspired his writing as we celebrate 16 years of state-dedicated protection for this special preserve.

📍 3635 W. Concannon Ave., West Terre Haute
Meet at the preserve entrance.

This free, family-friendly hike is moderately difficult, and no reservations are required. Wear long pants and hiking boots or sturdy tennis shoes.

Bring your curiosity, gather the family, and celebrate a place where nature and stories are worth preserving. 🌳
