Second Chance at Love Humane Society

Second Chance at Love Humane Society Second Chance at Love Humane Society was founded by Cheri Lucas, a dog behaviourist in 1994.Our Mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate, & Place Dogs.

We give neglected dogs a Second Chance at being the faithful companions they were born to be. Second Chance at Love Humane Society recognizes the flaw in this system and has established a new paradigm, tackling comprehensive and lasting dog rescue that begins before and continues after a dog is adopted:

Rescue: Taking in homeless dogs in need of help, regardless of age, temperament, or health. Re

fuge: Providing a permanent, stable sanctuary to the dogs that are simply too old, sick, or scarred to continue cycling through an adoption system. These “Sanctuary Dogs” find health and contentment at their Second Chance home. Rehabilitation: Physically and psychologically rehabilitating rescue dogs through healthcare, exercise, discipline, and leadership so that they will make balanced, socialized pets. Permanent Adoption: Strategically placing animals in homes where they will thrive and receive the leadership and care they need. Behavior Consultations: Inviting pet owners to attend private consultations or group workshops to deal with their dog's behavioral issues before they give up on the dog. Education and Outreach: Holding seminars on animal behavior to educate pet owners, rescue workers, and volunteers about how to better lead the dogs in their care. This Holiday Season make a difference by adopting or sponsoring a dog. For more details visit us online.

*The dog you need may not be the dog you imagined.*
When people picture the dog they want to adopt, they often have an idea in their head. Maybe a puppy. Maybe a young dog. Maybe a particular breed, size, or energy level.

And there's nothing wrong with having an idea.

But sometimes the dog who turns out to be the best fit for your life is the one you hadn't imagined at all.

Take Levi.

If you picture a Husky, you might imagine a dog who needs to be constantly on the go, with endless energy and an equally endless list of activities to keep him happy.

But Levi doesn't quite fit that picture.

He loves going for walks and spending time with his favourite people, but he's also an easygoing companion who is perfectly content to take it easy for the rest of the day.

Sometimes what we think we want in a dog isn't quite the same as what will actually fit our lives.

So perhaps the question isn't just:
"What kind of dog am I looking for?"

Perhaps it's also:
"What kind of dog would fit the life I actually live?"

And sometimes, the answer may surprise you.
Sometimes the best match is the one you weren't expecting.

*Levi may just be the dog someone didn't know they were looking for.* ❤️

We have been asked to help Rue find a new home. Rue is a beautiful 10-month-old Anatolian Shepherd mix looking for her forever home.

Found at just 6 days old and hand-reared on the bottle, she's grown into a loving, confident young dog with a wonderful personality. She has moderate energy and would thrive in an active home with plenty of space, ideally with one other friendly dog.

Rue is kennel trained, learning to walk nicely on a lead, and would benefit from continued training. She loves cuddles but is also independent, is gentle with her toys, and is happy being brushed, bathed and even blow-dried!

Sadly, Rue is looking for a new home due to conflicts with other family dogs—not because of any fault of her own.

Check out her page on our "Other Dogs in Need" web page for more information and photos.

Could you give this special girl the loving home she deserves?

MEET WILLIS!
Willis is the kind of dog you never forget. Handsome, gentle, and incredibly sweet, this special senior boy has captured the hearts of everyone who’s met him.

Willis was abandoned at a Southern California high-kill shelter on Christmas Eve. A few weeks later, we pulled him out of fear that he would be euthanized simply because there was no room left for him. It’s impossible to understand how anyone could have let such a wonderful dog go.

You would never guess Willis is 10 years old. He still loves going for walks, enjoys car rides, and happily takes in the world around him. He’s wonderful with other dogs, both large and small, and even does well with cats. At the same time, he’s perfectly content simply relaxing near his person and enjoying a quiet, peaceful life.

He adores people, including children, and everyone who meets him falls in love with his calm and loving nature. People constantly comment on how mellow, easygoing, and well behaved he is.

When Willis first came to us, he was heartbreakingly thin and had painful fly strikes on his ears. Since then, we’ve helped him regain weight, health, and confidence, and now he looks absolutely wonderful. He was recently groomed, and even the groomer commented on what a perfect gentleman he was the entire time.

Willis is currently being cared for here at Second Chance at Love Humane Society, but what he truly deserves is a home of his own. A soft place to land where he will be loved and cherished for the rest of his life.

More information and Adoption Questionnaire is availabe on his webpage. Please share his story and help this affectionate, senior boy find the loving home he deserves where he can live out his years.
