MEET WILLIS!
Willis is the kind of dog you never forget. Handsome, gentle, and incredibly sweet, this special senior boy has captured the hearts of everyone who’s met him.

Willis was abandoned at a Southern California high-kill shelter on Christmas Eve. A few weeks later, we pulled him out of fear that he would be euthanized simply because there was no room left for him. It’s impossible to understand how anyone could have let such a wonderful dog go.

You would never guess Willis is 10 years old. He still loves going for walks, enjoys car rides, and happily takes in the world around him. He’s wonderful with other dogs, both large and small, and even does well with cats. At the same time, he’s perfectly content simply relaxing near his person and enjoying a quiet, peaceful life.

He adores people, including children, and everyone who meets him falls in love with his calm and loving nature. People constantly comment on how mellow, easygoing, and well behaved he is.

When Willis first came to us, he was heartbreakingly thin and had painful fly strikes on his ears. Since then, we’ve helped him regain weight, health, and confidence, and now he looks absolutely wonderful. He was recently groomed, and even the groomer commented on what a perfect gentleman he was the entire time.

Willis is currently being cared for here at Second Chance at Love Humane Society, but what he truly deserves is a home of his own. A soft place to land where he will be loved and cherished for the rest of his life.

Valentine is the total package. We rescued this beautiful girl from a high-kill shelter, and from the moment she arrived, she’s done nothing but steal hearts. She has an incredibly loving, gentle temperament and truly enjoys being around people of all ages, including children.

We have been asked to help find a new home for Rusty. For personal reasons his owner has to very reluctantly find a new home for him. This is what she says about Rusty:

Food: He is a good weight the vet says, he is not motivated by food so he runs a little light, they eat science diet dry food sensitive stomach 2 Cups with some science diet wet food twice a day mixed in. He is not on any medication.

Sleep: He sleeps in a crate.

Behavior: He is completely house trained. He does not jump on furniture or chew anything. He likes tiny toys and he does not destroy them. He likes to take them to his crate and carry them around but he never tears them up. He barks at people who directly approach our house but never ever barks otherwise. He has never gone to the bathroom in the house (but will p*e a bit occasionally if he gets too nervous). e has a strong stomach for car rides. He knows his name and will sit before meals and wait until food is offered. He has been raised with a cat. He is very loyal and once bonded loves the dog beach and will stay happily with you completely off leash, says a casual hello to other dogs and goes on his merry way, ignores people and people constantly talk about how adorable he is. He does not play ball, he will go get it a few times but is not a retriever. When there are sirens near by he howls and it’s rather beautiful.

We've been asked to help Cocoa find a new home. Through no fault of her own this pretty girl has to be rehomed because her owner is in very poor health and can no longer care for her.

Cocoa is a 4 years old chocolate Lab mix and lives in Atascadero, CA. She gets on well with adults, children, other dogs and cats!
